DCS: MiG-19 arrives Friday! Plus new DCS feature?

Let the rampant speculation on the DCS: MiG-19’s release date end and instead let loose with the rampant speculation on a new Eagle Dynamics mystery feature all coming this Friday. Say what now? Allow me to explain.

MiG-19 ‘Farmer’ ready for release

Though delayed by about four weeks, the DCS: MiG-19 by RAZBAM is now ready for release and it’s coming this Friday along with a beta patch update for DCS World. Folks on the stable release schedule will need to wait until the next patch to get the module.

The DCS: MiG-19 is a DCS World level full fidelity simulation of the MiG-19P ‘Farmer’ by RAZBAM, a third party DCS World developer well known for their M-2000C and AV-8B modules. The MiG-19P has a slightly different release philosophy than their previous modules as the MiG-19 is intended to come feature and content complete.

We’ve previously seen the manual, various liveries covering multiple nations, and training missions for this aircraft. Release is now just a couple of days away.

One thing not included in this release is a proposed free addition of the MiG-19S – a light-weight version of the same aircraft with no radar and no guided missiles. RAZBAM has all but confirmed that this will come later.

Focusing more immediately, the DCS: MiG-19 after a short wait is now ready for release according to Eagle Dynamics and that’s extremely exciting.

Eagle Dynamics teaser

The announcement for the MiG-19 contains a tasty morsel of speculative bait designed to keep everyone guessing for the next couple of days.

Dear pilots,

With the DCS: MiG-19P Farmer by RAZBAM Simulations to be released this Friday, 1 March 2019, we will be shifting our Open Beta release to Friday this week instead of the usual Wednesday. A benefit of this is that we’ll now have time to also release an eagerly awaited new Eagle Dynamics feature! Let the speculation run wild!

Sincerely,
The Eagle Dynamics Team

As an avid speculator and a person who likes to read between the lines… I have no idea on what this is. Is it something serious like the Dedicated Server? It seems too broad to be something related to a specific module (and the Hornet’s next set of features are well covered and there’s no point in any mystery around that). Might it be the civil flight traffic that was talked about as a future addition? Unlikely but maybe. ATC updates? Too important for a fun speculative announcement like this. Could it be the long awaited cows getting added to DCS World?

Cows in a field on the DCS: Normandy map. Animated even.

I’m going with Cows.

We’ll see this “feature addition” and the DCS: MiG-19 in a beta patch on Friday!

It’s the Dedicated Server software being released publicly. This is going to hopefully have a big impact on the reliability of multiplayer matches from now on.

Repeated comments from Cobra have suggested they aren’t ready yet with the F-14.

I’ll amend my previous message. Cobra is today now saying that they are waiting on a release date from Eagle Dynamics. That’s new. For a long time they have been saying that they weren’t ready and working overtime to meet the end of winter deadline.

To be fair to Eagle Dynamics, its their platform, they have to run through their Q&A process just as they did with the MiG-19 though I don’t anticipate the delay.

Could be either option at this point. The Dedicated Server has some potential seeing as testing has been ongoing since the fall with select community members.

Cows are a serious threat given the normal A-10 operating altitude. When will we get DCS avians for bird strikes? The A-10 is subject to bird strikes from the rear.

Well, if we get a FARMER, shouldn’t we have Cows to go with it? Just saying.
