The latest DCS World beta has landed and there are a few bugs out there including one that may bother a lot of you DCS: F-14 fans – your wings are, in some light, almost completely solid black. Fear not as Heatblur has a temporary fix in as well as a request for a hotfix.
In some light…
As you can see below, in some light the wings have their textures although they are slightly off colour. By comparison in other light angles the textures disappear almost completely turning the wings black.
Heatblur has rushed out a quick fix for this despite it not being a real show-stopper. I do recommend that you read the warning label before applying it as the fix breaks the multiplayer compatibility check.
Dear all,
104th_IronMike on r/Hoggit
our apologies again for the black wings. Below you can download the files for a temporary hotfix. To apply it please follow the install instructions below the link.
PLEASE NOTE: These files will break your Pure Client Integrity Check for Multiplayer!
Unfortunately we cannot avoid this, we already requested a proper hotfix from ED.
Download Hotfix here: http://www.mediafire.com/file/ruzsp1…OTFIX.rar/file
Install Instructions:
1. Unpack the .rar folder and
2. Copy
HB_F14_TCS_RoughMet.dds
HB_F14_WING_RIGHT_RoughMet.dds
HB_F14_WING_RIGHT.dds
HB_F14_WING_LEFT_RoughMet.dds
HB_F14_WING_LEFT.dds
HB_F14_EXT_TCS_RoughMet.dds
HB_F14_EXT_TCS.dds
and paste (replace) in [your main DCS install directory]\CoreMods\aircraft\F14\Textures\Diffuse_RoughMet folder.
Hopefully we’ll see this resolved in a hotfix prior to the next open beta patch.
Afterburner effects
In a recent Open Beta, the F-14B afterburner effects disappeared or had visual difficulties. This appears to have since been fixed although on my DCS World Open Beta install I see some further graphical artifacting near the engine nozzles that wasn’t there previously.
Like the black wing issue, this is hardly a show stopper but hopefully it’ll be fixed.
Lol I can speculate they didn’t convert the wing rough met to the proper format when making the adjustments. I made this mistake once on my first livery attempt – and it looked exactly like this.

Good call. It sure looks that way!

If you are running a beta then well that is why it is a beta. I can’t see why they are apologizing because that is what a beta is for………TESTING. That is why they don’t push these to production runs.

The open beta for DCS World has almost become the defacto default version with the stable version just on a slower release cycle. More issues crop up in the beta for sure but with 90% of multiplayer servers on the beta and a large player base there… everything is very visible and the fact that it’s a beta is lost.
It’s a bit of an odd situation.

True. I do not recall ever running the ‘stable’ version.

There’s a small typo: “Heatblur has rushed out a quick for this” (“fix” is missing).
