Eagle Dynamics typically releases an exciting trailer at the end of one year or at the start of the next. The most recent trailer was delayed for launch by a few weeks but the delay was worth it was Glowing Amraam’s latest masterpiece showcases DCS World in 2020 in all of its glory with plenty of looks at new and unreleased modules for DCS World. This is my analysis.

Released just about an hour ago, the new DCS World 2020 and Beyond trailer is out and it’s meant to hype us up about upcoming DCS World releases. It works!
Plenty of DCS: WWII this year
Although the first images of the new video are of the new DCS: Supercarrier module, a considerable amount of the latest trailer is devoted to the new DCS: WWII content: namely the DCS: P-47, DCS: Mosquito and the DCS: Channel Map. Some of the first images in this trailer are of white cliffs of likely along the English coast as well as an allied grass airfield that look like something ripped right out of the Battle of Britain movie (1969).
Of the new modules featured, we get to see plenty of shots of the new Mosquito module, the P-47 that has been the focus of recent DCS World Weekend News updates, and even some images of the Ju88A-4 in flight. The most dramatic are of the Mosquito which I captured below.
Modern stuff too!
Of course, not everything is from WWII and we get plenty of images of the new DCS: Marianas Islands map (coming free sometime this year) which really shows off Eagle Dynamics’ latest map making capabilities. This is a seriously impressive looking map.
A few possibly new effects caught my eye as well. First, in a couple of scenes a train blows up after being strafed by attacking fighters. I don’t remember seeing this effect in DCS previously. The F/A-18C doing an evening launch also seem to have what might be some new afterburner effects. Finally, a couple of scenes (not captured below) also seem to showcase some possibly new lighting effects from rockets being fired by ground vehicles.

Eagle Dynamics and in particular, Glowing Amraam, do some of the best trailers in the industry and this is yet another great example. Definitely something that makes people excited for DCS World in 2020 … and beyond! Here’s to another great year with DCS World!

That’d be fantastic! As with 1CGS, I suspect the thing stopping them is the complexity of modeling that one aircraft. The bar may be set even higher for Eagle Dynamics – although they have more third parties that could work on a long term project like that.

I have to admit, WW2 warbirds aren’t my favorite, even though I own a couple (in DCS). In my opinion that era of aviation just pales before what came next, which are jet engines. But if there’s one category which absolutely captivated me within the WW2 aircraft, it’s the monstrous bombers (B-25 is among the smallest of the bunch). In an era with no A2A missiles, the idea of a behemoth plane, defended like a bunker by turrets along the airframe as well as other fighter aircraft, is just really cool.

I feel like the structure of DCS is a little more amenable to something like a bomber project, although they have considerably less experience with Bombers. IL-2 is limited by having to package groups of aircraft together and make them fit a particular setting and a more regular production timetable. DCS, for better or worse, is comfortable with picking out specific projects that can be worked on over the course of several years.
As complex as a WWII bomber is, a lot of the stuff DCS does, particularly 4th generation fighter jets, are incredibly complex themselves. I suppose the question would be whether or not there would be enough of an audience for a WWII bomber to justify the high commitment of resources. For my part, I’d gladly pay $70 for a fully modeled WWII bomber with multi-crew support.

The Mosquito looks fantastic, hopefully there will be some proper missions (or even a campaign?) to go with it.

It sounds like the Mosquito should pair well with the channel map and cross channel operations of 1943 and 1944 – perfect hunting ground for the FB.VI Mosquito. I would be awfully surprised if they didn’t quickly offer up some single player missions and a campaign to match.

From what I can tell, the DCS Anton and I-16 still don’t have a dedicated campaign (although that’s pretty much impossible with the latter anyway). Hope you’re right regardless!

Not to forget poor Dora which also hasn’t received a campaign yet. 😦

Problem with the Dora is that it’s out of time. Normandy and the Channel are not places the D-9 fought.
Any campaign would be more of a fantasy scenario. Which is fine. But it exposes the flaws of their aircraft choices until recently.

But shouldn’t that also apply to the K4? For which there is a campaign? And yes, unfortunately DCS does not cover itself with glory with its choice of aircraft

Great cover for an impressive trailer. I’m curious what DCS will do this year, the Corsair (although it will probably take longer) will probably force me to buy it (as well as my beloved Hind 😉 )
