A new Flight School campaign for IL-2

If a lack of training missions was hindering your enjoyment for the IL-2: Great Battles Series, there may now be an answer to that particular problem. A new campaign series promises to walk players through the basics and get them started with flying in IL-2. Here are the details!

Bf109 first, more types to come later!

Mission builder Utopioneer has released the first in what are likely to be multiple mini-campaigns for the IL-2: Great Battles Series offering tutorials and walkthroughs for the aircraft of choice.

The first iteration of this has support for IL-2: Battle of Stalingrad’s Bf109G-2 and includes the following missions:

  • Mission 1 – Basic flight through waypoints
  • Mission 2 – Take-off
  • Mission 3 – Landing
  • Mission 4 – Shoot down a bomber
  • Mission 5 – Dogfight
  • Mission 6 – Taxi

Although this first outing is centered around the Bf109G-2, Utopioneer is planning to release a follow up training campaign for the LaGG-3. I’ve also learned in talking to him that he hopes to be able to expand the series much further covering a wide variety of aircraft in the series.

For new players and veterans looking to brush up on their skills, this series of training campaigns might just be what you were looking for. Check out the IL-2 official forum post and download version 1 of Utopioneer’s Flight School Campaigns for the Bf109G-2.

  1. IL-2 has a sore lack of proper training missions. Newcomers are expected to just sort of figure out how to fly through trial and error which can definitely be discouraging. Looking forward to more of these training campaigns!

I suppose his first lesson [cross-country] is an airstart. I guess he put taxiing last as it can be the most challenging and frustrating part for new IL2 pilots who must do that before they even get to the runway. With some aircraft like the Spit and FW-190 even experienced pilots have ballerina days.

Definitely a good idea to put that last.

I’ve been flying IL-2 series titles since 2002 and many sims before that and I still spin out ☺️

It’s a great idea and i hope he’s successfull with that. I would love to see them implemented and supported from the offical side. Since atleast 2 people from Jasons team are already working on an offical manual, this would be a nice addition to that 🙂

I love the idea. IMHO a flight school has definately been missing in IL-2.

I also hope that guy will be successful with it’s implementation.

And that should also bring in some new players, which won’t hurt either.
