Crowdfunded video game documentary maker Noclip has put together a 34 minute documentary titled ‘How Microsoft Flight Simulator Recreated Our Entire Planet’ and it goes into some of the story and details behind both the creation of the sim and how the world behind Microsoft Flight Simulator was iteratively created.

The story and the layers of technology

The great thing about Noclip’s documentary is how it goes both into the story behind the creation of the new Microsoft Flight Simulator as well as the layers of technology that help drive it. I don’t think anyone has been able to so clearly articulate how all of the sources of information behind the sim come together to create what we see now on our home PC’s. Noclip also doesn’t shy away from the current context, the terrible year that 2020 has been, and how the sim has helped us connect with travel in a unique way.

The documentary is well worth the watch! Get your TV/computer ready and watch it on your lunch break!
