Breaking news: Flying Circus Vol 2 announced! (Updated)

It’s real and it’s happening. Just minutes ago, Jason Williams, IL-2 Lead Producer, posted a note that Flying Circus Vol 2 is happening and that new information would become available soon. Here’s what we have and what we know!

New aircraft teased in the logo for the new title

It’s been confirmed! Flying Circus Vol 2 is coming and we’ve got confirmation it’s happening straight from 1C Game Studios and IL-2 Lead Producer Jason Williams. So far we don’t have much information but we do have a logo and it offers some insights into the types of aircraft being planned.

Included in the announcement is the logo to the right and what we can see are clearly a Handley Page 0-400 and what looks like a Fokker D.VIII and a Spad VII.C1.

Jason otherwise said more information is coming soon. Great news! More to come on this!

For the announcement thread, visit the IL-2 forums here.

Update: December 4th at 5:41 pm

A comment asking about Career mode for Flying Circus on the official IL-2 Sturmovik Facebook page responded with the following:

Yes that is in the plan. Stay tuned for more info soon.

That is the clearest indication yet that Vol 2 won’t just be more aircraft but also an increase in the scope of the project to incorporate the series’ Career mode. This was easily one of the biggest requests that came out of the first release.

This is fantastic news, I was betting FC was dead, so glad that is not the case.

Very cool. I don’t actually visit the main forums very much anymore so if you hadn’t been reporting on this, I would not have known about it.

Already got the SO greenlight to buy it the moment it goes up for preorder.

FanTAStic news eh Shamrock? I’ve been doing a lot of FC using PWCG and I’m growing to love it more than I ever did (the Pfalz being my weapon of choice at the moment). This will be great, with some more planes to crash, especially bombers!!

It made my day. I’ve written a few pieces about what a Vol 2 could be and what it would do for the series. I’m sure it will bolster our WWI experience in Great Battles and boost the overall community especially with some more diverse aircraft. I’m excited!

I understand why, but…..again with the late war aircraft. Would be nice to see at least once the actual pioneering platforms of 1915. Faint hope, I suppose.

IMHO, jumping from 1918 to 1915 I think would be the wrong move. The two volume sets together will help to make for a stronger product overall. I do want to go back to the earlier aircraft (the E.III is calling!) too but I think this is the smartest way to help cement Flying Circus’s position in the series.

This is fantastic news! Thanks for getting the word out, Shamrock! 😃 I’m personally hoping for some expansion to the late war planeset we have right now, a larger map (updated Arras or otherwise), and maybe even 1-2 planes ROF currently doesn’t have. This would help it emerge from ROF’s shadow, IMHO. And the fact that a career mode is officially in the works is very very nice as well.

Waiting very impatiently for the full announcement now! 😅
