News round-up for May 8, 2021

Good morning everyone! Here’s a news round-up from around the flight sim community for May 8, 2021. These are news items that I’ve collected through the week that may not have made for a full news article.

Red Star updates us on MiG-17 project

We’ve heard a lot from Red Star Simulations recently on their MiG-17 mod project that is aimed at becoming an official module. The team reports that their efforts to make the simple flight model (SFM) for DCS is 90% complete and that they will then be moving over to creation of the EFM/AFM flight model that is used for high end player aircraft. The exterior model is also in good shape (as you can see) and they are planning to complete the cockpit for the type in June of this year.

There’s no release date but stay tuned for more updates.

Asobo looking for testers

Sim Update 4 for Microsoft Flight Simulator is bringing with it some big updates and Asobo Studios is looking for more testers to help them prepare for the release. They have a few areas of focus including:

  • Performance
  • Stability
  • ATC syntax accuracy
  • Aircraft (Engine Performance, Roll Stability, Average Yaw Control, and Aerodynamics)

We already know that there are significant changes to rudder modeling and that the studio has also been working on engine performance modeling, ground effect and more. If you’re interested, check out the latest developer update for more.

Waypoint offset video

Matt Wagner has released another short video showing off ‘offset waypoints’ for the DCS: F/A-18C. A small yet useful feature to know about. It’s just a short little video but it does help illustrate how to use the feature.

Another DCS: Syria Cyprus tour video

Ugra Media is showing off another short tour of Cyprus, part of the DCS: Syria map. It’s a quick one but there’s more landmarks to see and you get a better sense of what this part of the map is going to look like.

Carenado has released their PA34 Seneca V

Twin engine aircraft fans in Microsoft Flight Simulator have yet another aircraft option available to them – the PA34 Seneca V from Carenado. This appears to be yet another beautiful aircraft rendition from the aircraft makers at Carenado and this one has at least a couple of unique features including onboard weather radar as well as turbocharged engines which should make for better altitude flying.

It’s available only in the marketplace but you can also read the announcement here.

Well the Spitfire XIV and N.28 did just release along with a bunch of other stuff. There’s some Russian holidays around this time too so things may quiet down a bit.

But I expect news again soon. Typhoon and P-15B are likely coming next and perhaps before summer.

DLSS for MFS2020 is being investigated.

I think this could be so amazing for MFS2020 (It is listed at #42 by Asobo). I love DLSS.

Looking forward to the MiG-17, if for no other reason than there’s one at a museum not far from where I live that you can sit in and as a result the type holds a special place in my heart!
