The pace of new vehicles being upgraded or added to DCS World recently has certainly picked up. Several new vehicles, ships, and tanks have just been added in the most recent update and a few of them are also going to be part of a future DCS: Combined Arms update. We also have a very short weather update this week.
The new vehicles added into DCS World 2.7 are varied across several different categories:
- Leopard 2 A4 and 2A4TRS
- Leopard 2A5
- Leopard 2A6M
- Chieftain Mk3
- La Combattante II
- Seawise Giant
- BM-21 Grad
- PT-76 Soviet light tank
- VAB Mephisto ATGM
- T-155 Firtina
- AA-7 Airfield fire truck
- ATZ-5 Ural based fuel truck
- 5I57A airfield generator
ED has released promotional screenshots of some of these ships, tanks, and utility vehicles for us to have a close look at. They are all at the usual high level of detail that we’ve come to expect from recent additions to DCS World. As much as these aren’t an update on an anticipated aircraft or helicopter nor an update on something that’s already out… they do help make the world part of DCS World come alive and I’m thankful to see them coming with such attention to detail. Now… make us a nice S3 Viking already!
There was also special mention of DCS: Combined Arms which can now make use of the new Leopard 2 A4, Leopard 2A4TRS, VAB Mephisto and BM-21 Grad. Nice!
New fog and weather updates
The release of 2.7 and the introduction of the new cloud technology is just the start of several updates that DCS World is putting into the newest iteration of the sim. If you felt like the fogging effects were lacking, turns out that ED is also putting in some effort here.
See the below screenshot to get a sense of what they are putting together. A much more dynamic fog and low visibility appearance from the looks of things.
Meanwhile, bugs with the current system also got a mention. Specifically the ‘jitter’ effect for VR users which is being worked on.
