Combat flight sims tend to fit into some relatively neat boxes. World War I, World War II, the cold war, and modern aircraft. But sometimes you can bend the content that’s already available and come up with something unique and that’s what the folks at the Jasta5 server have planned for this weekend (as a test) and next weekend as the full event. I am speaking of their plan to do a unique ‘Polish and Soviet War 1920’ scenario. What does that look like? Let’s have a peek.
Unique scenario with unique content and challenges
The scenario idea apparently is a throwback to the RedBaron 3D community days where 1PL hosted a ‘Wings Over Poland’ scenario. The history of the conflict falls in the shadow of end of World War I and moves by the newly formed Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (the Soviet Union) and the reformed Second Polish Republic. In 1919, Polish troops managed to secure several frontiers on the eastern side of the country bringing them into direct conflict with the fledgling Soviet Army. The conflict had several back and forth battles and was resolved with a ceasefire on the 10th of October 1920 with a peace treaty signed the following March.
It’s against this backdrop that Jasta5 are hosting a unique event with both sides featuring similar aircraft and the use of the GAZ-MM 72-K AA truck as a player controlled ground vehicle that sets it apart from the usual World War I scenario.
Players are encouraged (or maybe required) to make use of the ‘Polish Russian War skinpack’ by Kurtz on the HSD skin downloader by Haluter. Kurtz is also responsible for doing quite a bit of research behind the event.
When and where?
I’m a bit late to the party on the first part but if you happen to have some time right as I publish this, there’s a beta testing event happening from 1600-0400 GMT today and the full event is intended to be hosted by Jasta 5 on a special Flying Circus Polish and Soviet War 1920 server.
