If you were looking forward to Top Gun: Maverick or the movie-tie in that Microsoft Flight Simulator, I have some bad news. Both are delayed and the wait will be a long one. Here’s what we know.
Bad news everybody
The pandemic continues to cause movie dates to shift around and the latest to move them is Paramount Studios which announced that they were shifting a bunch of their big movie releases from 2021 to 2022. Among them is Top Gun: Maverick which has shifted dates a bunch of times and is now slated to launch into movie theaters on May 27, 2022 (Memorial Day weekend in the US).
Among the collateral damage of that decision is Asobo’s free Microsoft Flight Simulator add-on pack which included a Nimitz-class carrier, an F/A-18E Super Hornet, and the mysterious spyplane that has been teased in the movie’s trailers. A brief update from Asobo Studios details the situation:
Paramount Pictures recently shifted the release date of Top Gun: Maverick to Memorial Day weekend, May 27, 2022. As we have previously announced, the Top Gun: Maverick expansion for Microsoft Flight Simulator for Windows 10 PC, Steam, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Game Pass will be released alongside the movie. We look forward to sharing more information in the future.Microsoft Flight Simulator update
Although some anger has been directed at Asobo Studios, it is misplaced as the content is tied directly into the release date of the movie and a licensing deal is a licensing deal. I hope that the extra time means that the Asobo Studio team might be able to add extra layers of polish and detail to the movie tie in.
