DCS UH-60L Blackhawk mod is available to try

Another significant mod for DCS World has just come out and its a big one for helicopter fans as it brings to life the UH-60L Blackhawk helicopter. Let’s check it out!

EFM flight model, beautiful visuals

Released by my friend Cubeboy over on Skyward Flight Media yesterday, the mod is a team effort between a couple of developers including Cubeboy, Kinkkujuustovoileipa and Jonas. Among its features are detailed 3D visuals, quality textures, almost fully clickable cockpit, and 12-liveries. It even has optional fuel tanks for enhanced range as well as in-flight refueling capabilities.

Impressively, the helicopter is plugged into DCS World’s EFM flight model which puts it at a step higher than earlier mods that were using the simplified flight model only. This all done without access to the SDK or official support so whatever state it’s in is impressive enough to me.

Check out the article over on Skyward Flight Media for more information about the mod, the work behind it, and of course the download link to go and grab it.

Spudknocker has also done a nice first impressions review of the mod which gives you a taste of what it can do.

I saw that video a little while ago and it’s a helluva nice cockpit for a mod. I’m going to try it out.

    A. IMHO DCS needs a free official helo way more than a free official warbird (and I LOVE warbirds). ED would do well to release an unarmed version of their UH-1H…

    B. I can scarcely believe this is the first xH-60 in the game. Given the perennial fan favorite UH-1 Huey, a Blackhawk of any variant would sell like hotcakes!

Which leads me to hope that this gang will either go the (long and torturous) route of the A-4 team, OR, given the opportunity, that they’ll go payware.

I few it this morning with some friends of mine. It flies pretty well but does take some getting used to. Taxiing is tricky as is the trimmer reset. I will stay the cockpit is extremely well modeled and the gauges are all crisp looking.
