Me410 cockpit and new airfield images portent release of IL-2 Normandy

We’re on the final stretch for the full release of IL-2 Sturmovik: Battle of Normandy as the latest developer diary points out. This week we’re seeing the nearly finished Me410 cockpit and a bunch of new airfields.

Me410 cockpit, airfields

Up until know we’ve only see the pre-rendered versions of the Me410 cockpit. Now we’re moving into the simulation engine with these latest images and that can only be good news for those awaiting the Me410 and the release of IL-2 Battle of Normandy.

The ME410 has a rather complicated cockpit and that is exacerbated by the even more complicated rear gunner position. Check out these screens to see what it looks like.

Also in this week’s update are new images of some airfields in Normandy. The report notes that there are 100 airfields spread out between the England side of the channel and on the French side.

Check out the official dev diary for more screenshots.

Another great job from il2 devs. I wonder whether the infamous unreliability of the remote controlled defensive machine guns will be modeled in any ways? Many pilots and gunners lost their life to it.

Images of the gunner station contained in the update. Have a look! Definitely modeled.

Sorry we are lost in translation. I tried to say that the remote controled defensive armament was highly unreliable, and I am wondering whether this unreliability will be modeled ingame. So will there be any malfunctions in the system or not. (I gouess not)
I hope I managed to explain myself properly this time, english is not my native language.

Oh I see. Reliability issues have not been modeled elsewhere in the sim so probably not here either.

The Me410’s defensive armament is pretty low on the list of other reliability issues such as the Sabre II engine randomly bursting into flames, CO2 leaks in many Russian aircraft, sabotage and poor metal quality on late war German types, etc.

Well, I know it is not realistic to expect it. I only mentioned it, because i think it is quite significant. On paper it is a very advanced and effective system, but in reality it sucked due to its unreliability. So to give the me410 a working defensive armament is an unrealistic depiction of the aircraft, and will give a false experience for the virtual pilots. (please note, I am half serious about this)

Lovely, if I’d have one criticism for the map it would be that it has way too many individual trees and no hedgerows. The latter are an extremely characteristic feature of the area and a huge source of frustration for the invasion force.

I just don’t think it’s that type of game. If it were, it’d have clickable cockpits, etc.
And then it would give up one of it’s core strengths and value props.

IMHO, IL2 is in many ways the “perfect” balance of a seriously fun combat simulation game that’s available (and if you throw in VR, it probably is The Best).

That 410 cockpit is absolutely gorgeous! Even if they’re not clickable, so great to have such high fidelity re-creations of these almost lost-in-time aircraft available.

I don’t care what people have said in the past, we need clickable cockpits in this game. They don’t need to be added to every single plane in 2 or 3 updates, they can be added one at a time like with DVD, 4K skins, and Drop Tanks. Start with bombers or planes with a cockpit with lots of switches necessary to the operation of the aircraft and then work down to fighters.

      Cheers

The devs did a fantastic job with the Ar234, and now they’ve done it again! That’s a sweet looking cockpit for sure.

I’m really looking forward to the release of the full Battle of Normandy.

I’ve been waiting so long for the 410! It’s one most beautiful looking aircraft of WW2. 🙂 The new map also looks gorgeous. The devs did a great job as far as we can tell by what we’ve seen so far.

Also thanks for the consistent blog posts. I read every single one of them – and I know how much work it is to post this frequent.

The 004s have their historical temperamental moods modeled.

Sort of. They don’t break down but you can overdo it 🙂
