ED reveals Grinnelli Designs F-100, Mi-24 update and AI model update

The latest DCS World Update is the usual smattering of news about AI aircraft model updates, some enhancements to the Mi-24P Hind module… oh and the announcement of a new partnership and high fidelity DCS: F-100 Super Sabre.

Super Sabre time

The biggest news is the announcement that Grinnelli Designs, is joining the roster as a third party developer for DCS World. Grinnelli Designs has, up to this point, been making mods for DCS World including the Edge 540, Extra 330SR, F-22A, and some goofier things like the Reliant Shuttle from Top Gear – you may remember this episode where they attempted to answer the question, “Could a Reliant Robin could be made into a Space Shuttle?”

Now they are an official developer and they are working to bring the DCS: F-100D Super Sabre to the table. The D version includes improved avionics, landing flaps, larger wings and tail fin, AN/AJB-1B low-altitude bombing system and an AN/APR-25 radar homing and warning system. There are also four 20mm M39A1 cannons, six hardpoints for a mix of AIM-9 Sidewinders, rockets and bombs.

The type was used extensively over Vietnam as a close air support jet.

According to the update, Grinnelli Designs is looking to create a high fidelity experience and are working with F-100 pilots.

The 3D model shown off appears to be fairly early along in the process so I would expect this project is a considerable ways away. Get excited, by all means, but remember that these things take time. Still, it’s yet another module coming that fits into that Cold War era niche that so many developers and fans of the series are starting to shift to.

Mi-24 update

The next Open Beta is set to launch some significant types to the Mi-24. Petrovich AI voice overs are planned and two former military pilots and voice actors have been engaged to provide the lines.

The first release will include English only but Eagle Dynamics plans to add a Russian localization, selectable from the Special Tab settings, in the future.

Enhancements to the ATGM sight are also on the way. There are new limits to how quickly the motors driving the unit can move. The sight grid will also be adjusted based on new information adding missing symbology and making enhancements to the field of view.

B-52H update

There’s also some new screenshots showing off the AI-only B-25H bomber model. The report indicates that textures are nearly complete and that they have put considerable attention to detail into this model.

You can read about all of this and more on the DCS World Weekend Newsletter.

F-100… as in 100 weeks until you can have it. 🙂

I’d like to have it though.

So many interesting modules in development, plus all the new maps!
Must set aside more $$ for new SSD’s (esp since Orbx are making Kola!).

So glad to see Hind getting some regular attention, esp fine details like the sight that they could’ve easily let slip forever.

Tho still stoked about super saber. In my opinion I believe a lot of old hands will shift to cold war. For the challenge and because they were planes in service during thier time or they grew up with. Also there is the whole co-op aspect with more dedicated missions airframes requiring more coordination and specialization. Currently an F-16, F-18, and soon to be F-15 can basically do it all so
