Eagle Dynamics is checking off a few more check boxes on the DCS: F/A-18C Hornet as that module closes in on its release date. Today, Matt Wagner did another one of his videos with this one focused on two new modes for the Hornet. Here’s what we’ve learned.

WACQ and SPOT modes

First, we’re getting some updates to the WACQ (wide auto acquisition) mode. We’ve already had this feature from early on in the Hornet’s release, however, now it’s getting a new un-caged mode which will let you specify an area that the WACQ will be searching which will help cut down the lock time and let you get more specific with where the search is being conducted.

Then we also have the new SPOT mode which will let you, while using a narrow angle on the radar, search a very specific area using a long press on the TDC. Cool!

These are icing on the cake of an already extensive array of radar modes for the Hornet but they do help get this aircraft that much closer to launch.

  1. Learning all of this plane’s systems is equivalent to getting a Ph.D. They are certainly giving the customer their money’s worth.

Oh yeah, I feel that way. As much as some folks lament the early access method, I have enjoyed starting from day 1 with the Hornet not having everything online which forced me to slowly learn each system and get the full use out of it. I have gotten lazy since they added Link16 for example 😀
