One of the newest developers aiming to throw their hat in the ring of third party DCS World developers is Red Star Simulations. They are a small team that is aimed, right now, at delivering a high fidelity MiG-17 for DCS World. Here’s a summary of their end of year update.
Current status looking good
The report from Red Star Simulations sounds extremely positive on the whole. They report that their cockpit model is nearly done, their flight model is reportedly almost complete minus tweaks, and research is well underway for the MiG-17’s systems.
Next year the team intend to do cockpit texturing and implement the aircraft’s systems. They are also intending to remodel the exterior MiG-17F model they have at present and bring it up to 2022 standards.
Improved damage model and systems failure models round out their efforts for the aircraft. That follows by news that the team intend to seek a review of their project by Eagle Dynamics later into 2022.
If all goes well, Red Star Simulations will be adding yet another aircraft into the growing list of Cold War era types that have been or are being added to the sim. The MiG-17 slots in between the MiG-15 and MiG-19, both already in DCS, but its historically heavy usage in Vietnam and elsewhere might make it a popular choice. Especially for those who prefer a guns only fight.
