It’s been a whole year since it was announced that Orbx were working with Eagle Dynamics on a map for the sim. Orbx are well know for their scenery expertise for X-Plane and MSFS and, if these new screenshots are any indication, they are about to build the same reputation in DCS.

Kola screenshots!

These eight new shots show off the work that the Orbx team have been putting into the new map. Dense urban areas and airport scenery are the highlights here.

Previously we’ve seen some scenery work and work in progress assets so this is a good progression.

As of yet we have no new information on any projected release date or if any changes are planned for the maps playable area. Looking forward to this one!

  1. Can’t wait to see if we get some real ORBX textures on some airfields. Would love to see them do at least one airfield somewhere with the best possible texturing, even if it means missions at that airfield would be hard on the framerates and it’s only used for solo flights and small missions. Or maybe special texture options in the settings.

Just one airfield done at MSFS 2020 quality would be a treat.

  3. Great news! You say no update to the map area, but was the latest estimate that in your story from a while back? It looked pretty big.

After all the sand, this is something refreshingly different.

It definitely looked like a big map. My experience has been that development tends to refine the shape of the overall flyable area so I’m curious to know if the same thing has happened here or if they are exactly on plan.

      Time will tell!
