It’s been a little while since Laminar Research put out a tutorial video (3-months since the ASK21 Glider tutorial) so its noteworthy that we’re getting a brand new tutorial covering one of the default aircraft in the sim. This time its the Robinson R22 and the tutorial doubles as a pretty good tutorial for aspiring helicopter and sim-helicopter pilots to watch to help get started.

Robinson Ready

The Robinson R22 is used in both the sim and in the real world to help helicopter pilots get started. So a tutorial on how to start, takeoff, fly, land and shut down the R22 in X-Plane 12 seems appropriate as a learning tool.

So, if you’ve got X-Plane 12 and feel like trying out a helicopter, the R22 seems like a great place to start!

  1. Other than a few attempts in Arma 3 and a lot of time in the ancient Gunship 2000 on easy mode (hey, I was 12), helicopter flight is something I’ve never learned.

This seems like the perfect entry point to be able to enjoy the DCS Huey that’s been sitting in my account for years, then maybe on to the more complex ones.
