Just a week or less of work is expected on SimWorks Studios PC-12 for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Let’s have a look at some of the latest details the emerge from the development process.

Readying the PC-12

Long in the works, SimWorks Studios have intended to make their MSFS PC-12 rendition every bit as good as or better than their Kodiak 100. Their Kodiak is one of my favourite planes in the sim so that will be a challenge for them to take on. Still, their PC-12 looks like it will be an impressive release.

We’ve learned in this latest update that interior textures are now 99% final and that only a few finishing touches are needed in the next couple of days to round that number up to 100%. The exterior is also mostly done although they indicate that they may tweak some shading prior to release.

Aircraft systems are also mostly complete. They report that 3-4 minor items still need to be taken care of. One of the cool features is the engine simulation which has a detailed ITT (Inter-Turbine Temperature) model in place with the aircraft being ITT limited above 12,000 feet. You’ll need to power back to avoid exceeding the 760 degrees centigrade or the engine could become damaged. The aircraft also has residual ITT refinements and the aircraft does do the characteristic double ITT spike on startup.

Avionics are also mostly done with SWS reporting that work on them required 12 months of their efforts to put together. A few last known bugs and some EFIS coloration issues are being sorted out.

Finally, they report that sound and flight model work is also essentially complete. One last effort to get the PC-12’s flaps down behavior better tuned is still in the process. On the sound front, work on the electrical system have had side benefits for the type’s sounds (unclear as to how) and there are some volume balancing efforts underway for the engine.

The final effort next week is intended to end with sending the aircraft off to Pilatus, the real makers of the type, for validation. Exciting times ahead for SWS and their latest product. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for additional updates.
