A ton of small updates coming out over the last several days for fans of DCS World. We have an update from Eagle Dynamics on the DCS: A_10C II, new video and JDAM tease for the DCS: F-15E, Aerges has released a series of screenshots in the lead up to the F1BE release, IndiaFoxtEcho show the MB-339 gun camera functioning, and Grinnelli Designs are having a blast with a real world F-100F as they work on the same jet for DCS. Lets check it all out!

A-10C II development update

Eagle Dynamics provided an update on Friday with a few small but significant updates to the DCS: A-10C II. The first update is quite similar to what we’ve heard about the F-16 and F/A-18 datalinks where the A-10C II will now be able to customize datalink members with up to 4 team members and 12 donors.

A second datalink option is planned for the A-10C II which will bring compatibility with the F-16 and F/A-18. That isn’t coming yet but is confirmed as coming later.

Progress is being made on the jet’s SNS + INS with the goal of providing more immersive and realistic position errors.

The jet has seen recent updates to it through various open betas that include fixing a bug with AGM-65L laser codes where 2111 through 2688 could not be ready from the scratch pad. The laser code has been added to the Mav page and is available for editing. New functions for the ARC-210 radio and APKWS guidance system are coming soon as well.

F-15E LANTIRN video and JDAM tease

Baltic Dragon has released a new training video called LANTIRN targeting pod basics. The 8:20 video goes over the basics of the F-15Es only targeting pod – for now.

We also have two new screenshots from Baltic Dragon and RAZBAM over recent days and weeks that tease the eventual addition of the JDAM series of weapons to the F-15E. HUD indications show GBU-31A, GBU-31B, and GBU-38. I’m not 100% sure on the terminology but I would assume that one of these is the MK-84 general purpose bomb while the other is the BLU-109 bunker buster with JDAM kit. The GBU-38 is based on the MK-82 500lb (although a BLU-111 and 126 exist as well).

F1BE images

Aerges have released 9 new screenshots over the last several days as the developer counts down the days to the release of the Mirage F1 BE. This two seater variant of the Mirage F1 will feature a complete back seat area including a unique HUD repeater TV screen. It is also coming packaged with the CC-420 gunpod (which packs a 30mm DEFA cannon) for all variants.

More images are likely to appear in the coming days on the Aerges Facebook page.

MB-339 update

A small update from IndiaFoxtEcho on their Facebook page with a new video demo showing off the MB-339 and the new guncamera functionality. It’s not completely clear to me but I think what we’re seeing is the gun camera overlaid in post production with the module spitting out a video file of the gun run – I’m not sure on this but that would make this functionality quite interesting. Check out the demo video here.

Grinnelli and a real world F-100F

The folks at Grinnelli Designs have been tweeting some experiences that their dev team have been having a great time gathering details of the F-100F for DCS World. A series of tweets, including a few that I’ve linked below, show the team getting up close and personal with the Super Sabre.

Some maintenance work was required and the team were apparently closely involved with some of the work being carried out.

Then, the work having been completed, the F-100F was fired up and engine tested in preparation for a flight.

Sitting in the back seat of a F-100F with the engine going must have been fantastic!

Finally, we have these great photos of the F-100F flying. Beautiful!

While that looks like it was a ton of fun, and I’m sure it was, this is also very useful for developers recreating airplanes to get up close and personal and help get those details right. I hope and expect that they were capturing sounds during all of this as well to help capture the feel of this Cold War era jet.

  1. Here I have been thinking I could pass on the F100 when it comes out, and then you have to go and post pictures of the jet.

That looks pretty much like the gun-camera of the F-86. The question is, why is it turned on a second before firing the first shot?
