A bunch of DCS World news to round-up this week. Eagle Dynamics, as usual, provided us with an update on some features coming to DCS World with special attention given to the Mosquito and Supercarrier – we haven’t heard about those in a while. Then its over to the third parties where we have the F-15E with some new updates there and Heatblur who made a very interesting comment the other day on the future of the F-14. Let’s have a look!
Supercarrier update

It’s been a little while since we last had a Supercarrier status update. Now we’ve got a new one. The first image shows us the Airboss interface. The station will apparently offer us a great view of the flight deck, let players control the speed and direction of the carrier, have access to an ATC overview and have integrated radios and voice chat interoperability. Even lights and elevator controls are planned for future updates.
Then we also have this new image of the Briefing Room. This hub for mission planning will offer a full 3D briefing room that can feature customizable squadron markings. A tablet can be used to update the aircraft and plan the mission route.
This should be quite an interesting update to the Supercarrier experience.

Mosquito update
Eagle Dynamics are making some updates to the Mosquito and are, in essence, using the module as a prototype for some enhanced landing gear physics updates. The update this week indicates that they have improved their multi-component physics for the landing gear. Better simulation of tire and shock absorber dynamics will provide a new and more realistic feeling for the aircraft in motion.
Update coming with the next open beta.
JSOW for F-15E

This image, tweeted by Baltic Dragon, shows off the F-15E deploying the JSOW. The capability is set to arrive soon (possibly the next open beta) following on from the addition of JDAMs in the previous update. The weapon will give the F-15E new stand-off capabilities with the caveat that the USAF only ever employed the sub-munition AGM-154A model and not the bunker busting AGM-154C model.
Baltic Dragon is currently writing the manual update for this weapon together with two other new features. The F-15E is also getting IFF (which has been inop so far) and AAI which is, as I understand it, similar to the Non-Cooperative Target Recognition (NCTR) some of you may be familiar with on the Hornet.
Heatblur hints F-14 journey not over
DCS: F-14 has been extremely highly regarded by the community as being one of the best modules to ever release for the series. Its in heady company too but a combination of quality and style have really served to make this a top notch experience. Fans of the module have been asking, periodically about what other options might come our way. An F-14B with the Sparrowhawk HUD upgrade? An F-14D? A few readers made me aware of an exchange this week where a question on the TARPS update received a slightly different answer than usual. Here’s the question:
Awesome, are there any plans in the future for the upgraded HUD of the late F14Bs? Or even better an F14D?
Heatblur have tended to be more non-committal over the years over future updates in this area, however, this one sounds like something is in the works.
Yes; our F-14 journey is not over and once we’ve unified the codebases we will start our next Tomcat trek.
Fascinating information indeed. What this means, however, is somewhat unclear and despite the F-14’s age, some of the newer models are still highly classified with little public information available about them. Still, the prospect of a more modern F-14B or even a F-14D model will surely cause a stir.
