Today marks the second day of VIAF, the Virtual International Air Festival, streaming live on Twitch.TV. One of the surprises of the show was a virtual visit by the Heatblur team with a special F-4E solo presentation.

Enjoy the display

VIAF functions like an airshow with a set list of performers taking to the air and wowing crowds with airshow-style displays. All done in DCS World.

The video is a great display of the F-4E’s flight model and visual effects such as the afterburners and vapour trails. In the background you can hear the sounds, recorded directly from DCS, of the F-4E’s engines. The only audio not from the game is the announcer voices and a preview of Meteor’s F-4 soundtrack.

It’s an impressive display of both pilot ability as well as module fidelity. There are times where you can’t distinguish reality from the simulation. It’s certainly impressive. Check it out and learn more about VIAF here.

  3. One relatively little thing that stood out was the exhaust soot effect and how it gave the impression its genuinely connected to something in terms of how it varies. Another is the brake chute, which looks like one of the better visual implementation efforts i’ve seen (not perfect but fairly convincing). They’ve obviously worked very hard on making it look like a living, breathing thing.

  4. Definitely looks good. Won’t steal me away from the Strike Eagle, but it will be a lot of fun.

    1. We’re at a stage where there are so many good DCS options! On the upside, you’ll potentially see Phantoms next to Strike Eagles next to Vipers online. Very fun!
