Three news items coming out over the last couple of days for DCS fans. There’s a new mod for DCS called Olympus which sounds really interesting and offers up a slick trailer to advertise its possibilities. Then we have the Mirage F1 which is now available for free trial, and Reflected’s new Debden Eagles campaign is sure to please Mustang fans.

Free trial for Mirage F1

Not all modules automatically go into Eagle Dynamics DCS World free trial system and until now Aerges have not made their Mirage F1 available in such a manner. That changes today with a slick trailer announcing the change.

The trial allows people to try out a module for 14 days per product in a six month period. Enough time to come to grips with the module and figure out if you want to buy it or not. It’s a great way to try before you buy. Aerges have done a fabulous job on the Mirage F1 and its three released variants (of four) and I look forward to more people trying it out for themselves.

New P-51D campaign releases

Putting you in the cockpit of the DCS: P-51D Mustang, Reflected Simulations new Debden Eagles Campaign features 11-historically based missions based on research and original documents from the 4th Fighter Group. There are 5 included cutscenes, realistic briefings with PDF versions available, unique kneeboards and checklists, a thousand recorded voice over messages and radio broadcasts and more.

Check out a very impressive cinematic trailer that showcases some of the action of the campaign. It’s on sale today for $11.99 USD. Learn more about the campaign here.

Olympus mod puts you in control

A new free and open source mod for DCS World brings something really unique to the table that might change the way DCS World multiplayer scenarios are experienced. The feature enables dynamic real-time control of units through a RTS style map interface.

Units can be spawned and given tasks to complete based on your own custom missions.

This isn’t a ground control interface like Combined Arms but more like making one person a conductor of an orchestra that is your DCS coop mission. It seems aimed at squadrons and coop groups more than anything with the ability to spawn units and set them up with competing goals that help create a dynamic narrative. The person in charge is then responsible for making an interesting scenario happen – if you’re a Dungeons and Dragons fan then think Dungeon Master.

Watch the trailer below and get more information and download it over here on the group’s GitHub.

  1. Olympus sounds fantastic, even for single player. I’ll check out your link but I heard it wasn’t going to release for another few weeks.

      1. You’re right, it’s out. But I hear on HIP Games that it would be later.

      2. Not sure what HIP was saying over there. I did a bit of looking into their versions and they did a couple of release candidates and then made their release version 4 days ago. This according to their GitHub. I thought last night I was misreading something but it does appear to be out 🙂

  2. Given the name I am hoping it works more like the Zeus mode in Arma III, which was a great tool.

    1. I’m hearing the name Olympus was chosen as an homage to that.

  3. I’ve been waiting to try the F1 before I consider getting it, so this is good news. I’ve discovered that I enjoy the modules that you can actually ‘fly’ like helos and cold war planes. The modern ones I don’t touch much as they tend to just fly themselves, other than the Harrier.

    1. Definitely a candidate for a likeable aircraft here. It’s thoroughly a Cold War type. The fourth model, the F1M will bring some more modern flare to the mix (when it’s released) but it’s still very hands on. The F1CE is very basic and that’s a good thing.

  4. I live in the village of Debden, in Essex. Nice to have a light shone on our sleepy corner of the world. Many know the role of the airfield in WW2, and have connections back to the US which hold today, but sadly more do not.
Reassuring that this little bit of digital history is out in the world now. Might mention this down in The Plough, our local Pub.
