We’re almost at the end of the year and what a year it has been for combat flight simming with the announcement of Combat Pilot – a new entry into the marketplace helmed by an industry veteran and a development team that is well known for their attention to historical detail. Let’s have a look at what is in their latest developer update!
Building up
Jason Williams, Executive Producer, and an industry veteran for well over a decade now is back with Developer Diary 5 for Combat Pilot. The intro to this latest diary entry probably says it all when it comes to taking stock on what kind of year it has been for the newest development group to take on a combat flight sim project.
What a first year it has been! We’ve managed to form a team, set initial goals, build assets, establish a community, setup lines of communication, get a plane flying in the engine and lay the technical ground work for our playable prototype. We have a long road ahead, but we’re on the road or perhaps I should say that we’re taxing towards takeoff? That’s probably a better analogy.
The development update also includes plenty of new screenshots showing off the work that is currently underway. Jason’s update indicates that Digital Forms is making excellent progress on the USS Enterprise as well as on the IJN Akagi.

There’s also work ongoing for the buildings of Midway, the 5 in. / 38 Cal. Gun, 5 in. / 51 Cal. Gun, the F4F Wildcat and the A6M2. The latest images includes these that show the F4F in early texturing, shows off the interior detail (no doubt of tremendous importance when the damage model comes together), as well as the folding wingtip of the A6M2 and the landing gear.

FSExpo and Combat Pilot
This developer diary also includes news that Jason Williams and some of the Combat Pilot team are planning to attend and have a small booth at the show. They aren’t sure what they will be showing when they get there but it will be no doubt be exciting to see what has been done so far.
On a sidenote: I am hoping to be there to document so stay tuned for that coverage in June!
