Compared to the other sims I’ve talked about in my look back series for 2023, Combat Pilot is a newcomer on the block but I still thought it important to talk about seeing as its the first, new from the ground up, combat flight sim to emerge in quite some time. Let’s have a look at how 2023 treated this still in development sim and summarize a little of what we know about it.
Pacific at last!

Flight simmers have been hoping for a return to the Pacific with a WWII combat sim for quite a long time now and those hopes may finally be answered with Combat Pilot. Helmed by industry veteran, Jason Williams, the product is being created by Barbedwire Studios subsidiary Entropy.Aero.
The sim is set in the Pacific theatre and the first entry in the series is aimed at recreating the Battle of Midway with the pivotal carrier battle that helped determine the course of the war in the Pacific.
I was pleased to be able to make a bit of a splash by breaking the news of the product’s development and doing a lengthy interview with Executive Producer Jason Williams back in May.

Since that reveal, we’ve seen a series of development updates shared on the Combat Pilot forums. Each one has showed some progress as the project starts to develop its assets and art. Behind the scenes we also know that coding and engine technology is being worked on as well.
Jason has also shared the dates for FSExpo on their announcements page and has indicated in the latest developer diary that the team intends to have a small booth at the expo.
Plenty of hope for 2024 as this project begins to come together. Though it is still in its early days, I think most of us share the hope that this sim will emerge as a strong competitor to the established titles in the industry.
