The latest DCS World Weekend News update for this week is focused primarily on DCS WWII Pacific content. We’ve got new images of the free Marianas WWII map, the F6F and the USS Enterprise. Plus there’s a new Mi-24 campaign that is being highlighted. Let’s have a look!

WWII in the Pacific

We’ve got new information from Eagle Dynamics on their WWII Pacific content. We saw a fair bit of it during their DCS World 2024 and Beyond video presentation early in the year and now we’re getting the best look yet on some of this content.

The F6F Hellcat is in development by Eagle Dynamics and they report that it is progressing well. Flight model and external model details are currently being polished according to the update.

Another star attraction is the USS Enterprise (CV-6). It’s currently under development and Eagle Dynamics say they are ensuring that it has quite a bit of detail. It’s not the only ship under development with other US Navy and Japanese ships also in progress.

Also seen in the screenshots is the World War II edition of the free Marianas map. While the terrain will be similar to the modern version of the map, the buildings, roads, airports and other details will very much match the island from the WWII setting.

All of this appears to set the stage for Eagle Dynamics to take their WWII content into the Pacific. There’s much more to do as an A6M5 Zero would be a hoped for adversary to the Hellcat at the very least. Other Battle of the Philippine Sea 1944 era appropriate aircraft such as the B6N “Jill,” TBM Avenger, D4Y “Judy” and SB2C Helldiver among others are needed to help fill out the combat aircraft roster.

Look forward to future updates on how Eagle Dynamics plan to approach this period of air combat history.

New Outpost campaign out

A new DCS: Mi-24P campaign is out and available for sale on the Eagle Dynamics E-Shop. Outpost has you flying the Mi-24 for the Syrian’s during events in 2012 through 2018. 15-missions and custom liveries are among the key features. The campaign is currently at $16.99 USD in the shop.

More details are here.

  1. Man those screenshots look fantastic. Whenever we finally have the DCS: WWII pacific theater and Combat Pilot in our hands at the same time I will be in my own little piece of Heaven.

Definitely! Really pleased to see the Pacific theatre make a kind of comeback after a long time. These things come in waves and this time around we’re getting some truly beautiful renditions of these aircraft!

  2. I’ll pass on the Corsair and probably the La7 until a sale, but I’m all in on the F6F… assuming the present lack of certainty is rectified.

I’m about equal on F4U and F6F. I think those are must-haves for me!

    2. Hmm… I’m curious as to why you’d pass on the F4U and not the F6F?

Both will be Insta-Buys for me, but NGL out of the two, Corsair is my pick.

First to exceed 400mph, a BUNCH of pioneering aero features, longest (by far) production run of any piston fighter, served in WW2, Korea, Indochina, Central America, et al.

Last piston engine fighter to score an air-to-air kill (against another Corsair!!!), Last combat sortie in 1969, on active military duty until 1979!!!

And since it’s difficult to fly (nicknamed the Ensign Eliminator), it should be really fun in DCS 😉

The Hellcat is no slouch, for sure, but my fave will remain the bent wing bird 🙂

  3. This is going to such an expensive year, but I’ll Credit Card ready for these aircraft, miss carrier landings as I took IL-2 off to save space, years back. DCS carrier landings will be SOOO MUCH more difficult!, Need to get the life jacket inflated as I start the take off roll!

I’m looking forward to doing carrier landings with these aircraft for sure. Can be very fun! And quite a challenge.

      1. There’s a YouTuber who loves warbirds and frequently uses the Tarawa as a stand-in for a WW2 fleet carrier(!).

Obvs nothing authentic yet, but it’s still a cool challenge and you can actually get the DCS warbirds off and on the boat (assuming a clear deck 😉

  4. These shots look fantastic but when ED posted them up on Twitter the comments were mainly unimpressed, skeptical, or just wanted current issues fixed instead. I think this shows the level of negativity and pessimism surrounding DCS just now.

My experience following not only DCS but a bunch of other similar sim projects over the last couple of decades is that this is always the case.

If a status update is posted that talks about fixes, a subset of the community will ask about new features/content. And vice versa.

There’s definitely a bit more concern these days following the RAZBAM/ED comments. That’s understandable but I think what you’re seeing there is mostly of the typical nature.

This post about DCS’ WWII Pacific content was one of the most well read this week which leads me to suspect there’s quite a bit of quiet interest.

      1. Hopefully you’re correct. Maybe it’s just me that’s got a total downer on DCS because they broke the Mosquito.

        What’s wrong with the Mosquito?

    2. One can have a successful business even with negative social media buzz.

Remember, happy customers don’t tend to post – they fly instead 😉

And of the complainers, some (many?) just like to share their discontent.

  5. I’m honestly wondering if Hellcat will release before Corsair?!?!?!?
