A development team at Slitherine Games is making a World War II dogfight simulator using an interesting turn-based approach to air combat. They are now on the lookout for beta testers to join a closed testing group. Interested? Here are a few details!

Turn based dogfighting

If you’ve ever watched the History Channel show Dogfights, you might have an idea of what Slitherine Games is making with their Scramble: Battle of Britain game. Combining flight simulator flight physics and damage modeling together with a turn based approach to dogfights lets you think out your next move and see how it plays out. Did that Immelmann turn prove to be a smart one or did that leave you in a precarious position? Plan your tactics, play it out, and see what happens.

Here’s what their own description of the title says:

Prepare to experience the thrill of intense dogfights like never before. Unlike traditional dogfighting games, Scramble offers a unique simultaneous turn-based gameplay style that minimizes time and reflex demands while preserving the intricate details of aerodynamics and physics-based simulation. In this dynamic 3D airspace, each dogfight is broken down into short, thrilling bursts of action, making it perfect for players on the go. You will be able to plan your aircraft’s maneuvers strategically during simultaneous turns and witness the outcomes unfold in real-time.

I’ve been following the development of this title for quite a while now as I know a member of the development team. It’s proving to be an interesting product and one that looks like it might make a great companion to your conventional flight sim dogfighting.

They are looking for beta testers

The game is still in development and are looking for beta testers to participate in a closed beta test. Interested in participating? More information about the test is available here!

Looks interesting, and reminded me of a two-player WWI dogfighting game called Ace of Aces 👈 Rabbit hole!

  2. Well my hand/eye, steady aim, etc. sure ain’t what it used to be and turn based tactics games have really been the genre that’s kept me a semi active gamer for the most part anymore. With that said I’m quite interested in this. If the gameplay is reasonably good, I imagine it’ll get a lot of my playtime. It looks to me like a more complex, physics based & obviously fully 3D version of Sid Meier’s Ace Patrol games.
