Thanks to the recent Developer Q&A with the Microsoft Flight Simulator team, we know that Sim Update 15 is planned to be the last big update for the sim until next year while the team moves to working on MSFS 2024 entirely. Getting Sim Update 15 just right with its new content and new features is going to mean a lot to everyone and that together with some bugs in the latest beta means that the update is not going to release as had been planned.
Sim Update 15 delay
With a wide range of updates planned including the addition of the iniBuilds A320neo, a whole new memory manager running in the background, and a series of other updates and changes, its clear that Sim Update 15 is going to be a big deal for the sim. Doubly so with the news that it will be the last update for a while as the Asobo and Microsoft teams turn their full attention to completing MSFS 2024.
Getting this significant update done right is important and the latest beta builds, out in the community, have some serious issues still to resolve before it can launch. That means that the previously planned launch date of today, May 7, is no longer planned.
Here’s the statement from Senior Community Mananger Jayne on the delay:
Due to new issues discovered in last week’s Sim Update 15 beta build 1.37.15.0 (WASM “missing content” error, Xbox stuttering/freezing), SU15 will no longer release on 5/7 as we continue to investigate and work towards resolution.
Today, participants in the SU15 beta will receive a new update (1.37.17.0) which fixes the WASM “missing content” error introduced in 1.37.15.0 as well as a handful of other issues (including DX12 aerial pop-in).
We are continuing to investigate the Xbox stuttering/freezing issue, which is related to the recent GDK update. In the interim, enabling rolling cache (instructions below) should reduce the likelihood of encountering stuttering/freezing for most simmers on Xbox. Please note this is not a fix for the issue, and it is still possible to encounter it with rolling cache enabled.
We aim to have a fix for the Xbox freezing/stuttering issue by next week (which will be flighted as soon as possible). Our sincere thanks to everyone who raised these issues and provided detailed repro steps. Your information has been a huge help in our investigation thus far.
Stay tuned for more news as the teams work towards launching this big update!
