We’ve got plenty of DCS World news arriving today with some long awaited updates on the F-5E, some new features for the AH-64D, and even some new free assets coming to the core of the sim. Let’s have a look!
The next update
DCS World’s regular update pattern is set to bring us a bunch of new things and one of the focuses in this weeks’ DCS World Weekend News update is the DCS: AH-64D. First Matt Wagner talked about the FCR Zoom and C-SCOPE feature video earlier in the week.
The video also shows off a new feature for the Apache which lets you open the access ports and panels and see the inner workings ala the Blackshark 3. Nice!
Now we’ve got another new one talking about the FCR/TADS LINK. The later feature will let the pilot and CP/G link the TADS to the FCR NTS letting you visually identify targets and perform BDA after action.
This video also features the new DCS: Iraq map in the background. It’s been the subject of some talk as the map appears to show a modern day, 2020 or later, map rather than something from 2003. This is pretty typical for DCS maps as anything fairly recent has tended to be based on the latest imagery and roadmaps. In any case, you can get a clearer look at the map as Matt walks through the features.
New core features

Some of you may know Massun92’s Assets Pack which as been available in modded form for a while. Now the assets are being added to the core of DCS World. The extra details can be sprinkled around airbases and add extra immersion to players. Always appreciate that sort of thing!
The assets are reportedly being added in the next update if they pass all of the required checks.
F-5E getting some updates

For a long time there have been calls for the DCS: F-5E Tiger II to get some attention. The module is several years old and it has several notable bugs that community members have been hoping to see resolved. Some of us are also hoping that we see some art asset updates in places.
The updates include a few community asks and some other changes. Its not everything that everyone is hoping for but I see it as a sign of some forward movement on the jet that will hopefully lead to a few other items getting sorted too. According to this week’s update, here are what is coming in the next update:
- The Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) now displays radars in search mode.
- Ground clutter on the radar is now more accurately represented based on altitude and scanning elevation.
- We’ve added the AIM-9J version of the Sidewinder air-to-air missile.
- TACAN operation with no weight-on-wheels has been corrected.
- It is no longer possible to uncage the AIM-9B Sidewinder in pre-launch mode using the Missile Uncage Switch.
