Matt Wagner is back again with a new video showcasing some new DCS World features. This time the focus is around fuzing for various munitions carried by several DCS World modules. Let’s have a look!

New fuzing coming soon

The DCS: F-16, F/A-18C and A-10C II are all set to see some new bomb fuzing options in an upcoming update for DCS World. The updates to munitions are part of an overall upgrade strategy that involves adding realistic fuzing to weapons as well as providing visual updates to some munition effects – cluster munitions were singled out in the reference.

The video details the UI changes and then the addition of the different options for each of the weapons. This does get “into the weeds” a bit but generally glosses over what the different fuses do. What it clearly does do, however, is bring additional realism and accuracy and it means that systems can be configured more precisely for the type of mission – bunker busting versus setting a low altitude airburst for targets in a field for example.

  1. “fun” addition to aircraft weapons (albeit not sure if it actually does anything in terms of weapon effectiveness??) and will be interesting to see the new explosion visual effects and the new fragmentation model.

    1. I think so, too. If a building/tank/artillery unit is destroyed, does it really matter what fuse was used? One less target to worry about and that’s all. Of course I know this makes the weapon management one step closer to real world. But there are still problems with surface objects and that should be solved, too. A simple cargo container is more bulletproof than BTR-80 (I tested it with Hind cannon) just because the container is from older version of DCS (which can be recognized by low-res textures).
