Local Legend 17: Curtiss C-46 Commando

Temperamental and problematic at times, the Curtiss C-46 Commando nevertheless gave a good accounting for itself during and after World War II. During the war it was able to carry cargo loads higher and faster than any other Allied transport and that made it ideal for flying the risky Himalaya Mountains route (also known as “The Hump”).

Aeroplane Heaven have once again been tapped to offer up a historical military and civilian transport aircraft for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

The aircraft comes in four liveries: Japanese Air Self Defense Force, Olive Drab (Fictional), Blue (U.S. Navy), USMIL. The aircraft is available for purchase through the Marketplace for $14.99 USD.

The update is free for everyone! Read more about it here.

  2. The C-47 is a favorite of mine. If it’s anything like Aeroplane Heaven’s DC-3 release it will be visually attractive with midrange flight/systems modeling. Maybe we’ll get lucky and see a realism mod, much as the DC-3 got.
