We’ve got a whole bunch of interesting information coming to us from Eagle Dynamics on some new DCS World features on the F10 map, updates on the CH-47F, and a look at a major update coming to us from OnReTech and their DCS: Sinai map. Let’s go!
Progress on the CH-47F
Though the project was delayed, I am kind of glad that it was as it seems like there’s been substantial progress on the module since the delay. This DCS World Weekend News update covered a bunch of updates that the team has been making on the project.
Visual improvements include improved rotor blade rendering, improved internal views, better lighting, additional (4th layer) levels of detail, MFD rocker animation, the addition of night vision goggles, and the addition of the Countermeasures and Warning System from a post early access release to early access release. Automatic Flight Control System has been refined for authentic take off behaviour (not sure what that means but it sounds good) and adjusted flight modeling is in place. Further refinement will come post launch.
Numerous instant action missions have also been added and additional training missions have been added as well.
From the addition of features to tweaks to existing visuals, flight model and systems, it does seem like there’s quite a bit being done on this prior to its early access release. I’m glad that this is being done.
Sinai update
OnReTech and Eagle Dynamics are talking about a significant update to the Sinai map. It’s been just a little over a year since the map has released and very little has happened in the intervening time. OnReTech appear to be working on large scale long duration updates rather than smaller updates in between. Regardless of the efficacy of that versus a quicker update model, this new update does promise to pack in quite a bit.
15 new airfields and airports, 100 new unique objects and points of interest, improved city textures, realistic seabed textures, and enhanced helipads. There will also be night illumination for unique objects including the Giza Pyramids and new acacia bushes for parts of Israel where the bushes reach their northern limit.
The route tool
The new Route Tool for DCS World will let you create preset waypoints before spawning into a mission. That includes elevation and ETA information. You can also save these routes for later and reuse them. Its available to all DCS aircraft and particularly useful for Flaming Cliffs aircraft.
Praise your preferred deity! I’ve been hoping for something like this for a long time. Punching in waypoint coordinates is kinda fun the first few times and then a slog after a while so making this simpler is a big move forward.
MiG Killers campaign
Eagle Dynamics are hyping up a new campaign by Reflected Simulations with a new campaign that focuses on kinds of scenarios that the first Top Gun class experienced.
You will join the inaugural class of the Top Gun course starting on March 3, 1969, and master the art of dogfighting in your DCS: F-4E Phantom. The F-4 MiG Killers Campaign will offer 12 meticulously crafted missions based on the real-life syllabus, totalling 45 missions. You’ll encounter heavily randomised and re-playable scenarios, advanced AI tactical behaviour, and a study-level simulation of real-life procedures.
The campaign is coming in the next update!
