We’ve got a new update from Red Star Simulations on their Facebook page with a few details on the work going into their DCS: MiG-17F. Let’s have a look!

Early RWR plus screenshots

Systems and texturing are the current focus for the Red Star Simulations team while they work away on their DCS: MiG-17F project. One feature they are working on currently is the SPO-2 Sirena 2 RWR on the MiG-17.

The system could only detect radar emissions up to 6 kilometers behind the MiG-17F with a 50 degree vertical and 80 degree horizontal range. The RWR gave an audio warning depending on the range of the radar emission. It essentially gave MiG-17F pilots warning if an aircraft was coming into firing range behind the jet.

We also get two new screenshots showing off the texture work on the aircraft. Very visually impressive indeed! Check the Red Star Simulations Facebook for future updates.

  1. Red Star seems to have come a long way with their MiG-17F every since they had announced it back in 2021. I say they won’t release it until 2025 or (more likely) 2026. It should be a fun plane to fly against the F-4E Phantom.

Hopefully 2025 but you’re right that it may well be later. The module has evolved quite a bit but it sounds like it will fit in nicely in the DCS Cold War environment.

  2. yep definitely a nice additional to the Cold War scenarios – we’d have the MiG-17 and the F-4E and yes there is a the MiG-21 (a later version but I ok with the suspension of belief that is required). We also have the MiG-19 but who knows what is going to happen with that module (since the dispute hasn’t been resolved)
