Some interesting news coming out of this week’s DCS World Weekend News update surrounding the single and multi-threading code. We’ve also got a good look at some CH-47F pilot models coming soon and there’s a new community starting up that aims to help DCS World players who have accessibility/disability needs. Let’s have a look!
Single threaded DCS will be ending soon
For several months now DCS World has had both single and multi-threaded options available to end users as Eagle Dynamics has worked out the code that supports multi-threading on modern multi-core processors. According to the news today, single thread support is going away as multi-threading becomes standard for DCS.
Eagle Dynamics reports that performance and stability have improved to the point where they will be ending support for single threaded mode in the next update. Multi-threading support will continue to evolve and special mention is made of multiplayer servers improving performance with large number of forces in action at one time.
CH-47F pilot and module status update

New DCS: CH-47F specific 3D pilot models are well underway now for that module and will soon been implemented. The models are aimed at recreating accurate gear for CH-47F operators down to the flight suits, helmets, body armor and communication gear.
The new models are being animated to include interaction with the instruments of the helicopter and more. Neat!
ED have kind of buried the lede here a bit in their own reporting as new functionality looks set to come to the helicopter soon too. They mention the following features:
- LCT (Longitudinal Cyclic Trim)
- AFCS (Automated/Advanced Flight Control System)
- DAFCS (Digital Advanced Flight Control System)
- DASH (Digital Air Speed Hold)
- DCP (Differential Collective Pitch)
- New display pages
- New liveries
- Advanced sling functions
- Cargo system improvements
- New crew-served weapons
That’s a good list and a good chunk of CH-47F functions that are hopefully coming to the helicopter soon.
DCS for Disabilities
Eagle Dynamics like to highlight multiplayer communities from time to time and this one I find particularly useful and interesting. A group called DCS for Disabilities is focused on supporting disabled DCS pilots. The group flies all modules and offers support on how to setup controllers and tackle challenges that are specific to those with disabilities.
This is likely a huge boost for anyone in the community that has an accessibility need including those with mobility challenges, veterans with occupational related disabilities and more. Always like to see people supporting people with this hobby no matter what challenge they may face.
Join the group’s Discord here.
