A whole bunch of products are touched on in the latest SimWorks Studios update. We’ve got news about their long in development B-52, and updates on the PC-12, AirVan, and even their Kodiak 100. Let’s have a look!

PC-12, Kodiak updates

Let’s start with the PC-12 which had an update go out earlier in the week. Apparently it has an issue or two and five bladed versions can become inoperative as a result. The issue is being tested over the weekend and an updated version is intended to be released on Monday. The fix will solve that plus resolve missing walk-around click spots and fast ITT rise with altitude.

Kodiak 100 is going to get some work done on it in October. They intend to fix any bugs reported with the airplane and finalize the visual update with it as well. They intend to check it’s compatibility with MSFS 2024. Both it and the Kodiak 900 will go through checks before an update is released. It looks, too, from the screenshots that the Kodiak will be picking up a dynamic dirt layer on the exterior textures which looks awesome and is a great addition for a plane like this. Update: I’ve been corrected that this is infact just a custom paint scheme.

B-52 updates too

SimWorks Studios has not so secretly been working away on a B-52 for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The venerable B-52 bomber has become iconic of USAF air power over the decades and thanks to various life extensions the type is expected to retire as it approaches 100-years in service. Meanwhile, the digital version looks to be taking form with various work in progress shots of the cockpit emerging in the latest status update.

  1. Who would ever have believed that we’d have a High Fidelity B-2 Spirit addon BEFORE a B-52 Stratofortress…?? 🙂

Looking forward to it, and obviously, it can’t come fast enough!!! 🙂

Sadly, the PC-12 update hasn’t made it to The Marketplace yet. Time to return the bird to the back of the hangar until it’s available.

    1. Yeah it’s a bit of a wonder isn’t it! But we will eventually get the Buff!

Still waiting on these last two PC-12 updates before I finish off my review. I love the plane but the quirky handling was a bit of an issue. Hopefully all solved and good soon.

      1. Re the PC-12, yes I feel exactly the same way.

I know they put a lot of work into it, and that it does IRL have some quirks, but it’s hard for me to believe that it handles/flies THAT differently from everything else.

There are times when I feel more like i’m fighting it than flying it. And given my predilection for challenging aircraft/situations (like DCS Tomcat carrier landings 🙂 ), I gotta believe at least some of it is the addon.

We’ll see – I like the PC-12 as an aircraft too much to give up on it (i’m still rather gutted that even the REP upgrade for Carenado’s isn’t working any more in X-Plane. That was a sweet setup!).

Anyhow, back to the FSR500 for now. Such a slick addon!

  2. Still very much let down by the PC12. Had such high hopes. Things took a turn when they announced they would not have a failure component so – not even hot starts. According to them, this was based on market research which is hard to believe when almost every other 3rd party options out there continue to include basic failures at the minimum. Instead, they thought it better to invest time animating snack drawers and avatars. To date, the cabin temperatures are all over the place. The recognition lights do not dim along with the alternating beams which is a long time issue that they seem reluctant to address. Again, this is a feature the other 3rd party options seem to not be struggling with. Ground handling has gotten worse after the latest update. As for handling in the air – it’s better, only because it seems like they’ve completely turned down the crazy yaw issues or removed it completely. I’ve flown in a PC12 more than once and never noticed weird crabbing tendencies – even if only at a passenger. Don’t even get me started on the inability to hot swap avionics which has also become standard with other offers. The only good thing is that she sounds and looks amazing. But sadly, all these other issues just kill immersion. But, hey, their market research says otherwise.

    1. Yeah I’ve just spent a bit of time with it yesterday while I ramp up to do my full review. I’ve been holding off while they solve some issues but the latest update seems to have fixed a few things and then made a few things worse. Seems like a challenging airplane to sort out.

I will point out that even on a small team that the dev who did the snack drawer is probably not the fellow responsible for the flight model issues. No matter what other extras it has, flight model stuff can be hard and this one seems to really be suffering. They did such a phenomenal job with the Kodiak 100 so I don’t know what’s happened here.
