The DCS: OH-58D Kiowa Warrior is getting an upgrade thanks to the work of Echo 19 Audio. The team have become known for their work enhancing the sounds of a variety of sim products across multiple platforms. This particular enhancement is being done with Polychop Simulations directly. Watch and listen as they show off the work done!

Improving the audio for the Kiowa

The video above is a three and a half minute first look preview of the enhancements being worked on by Echo 19 and Polychop Simulations. The helicopter has generally received positive reviews, however, sound was an area where many users were hoping to see improvements and this partnership looks set to deliver.

Over the last few months, we’ve been slowly working on re-tooling the audio for the amazing Kiowa by Polychop. The dev team has been super supportive of our requests. It has made developing the new sounds a lot easier than anticipated. This new audio package for the Kiowa features new rotor, turbine, tail-rotor, blade slap, and even some new weapon sounds for the M3P. Countless additions include new switches, buttons, and even some new tail-rotor linkage sounds as you move the pedals back and forth.

Echo 19 worked with 45 North Aviation in Traverse City, Michigan, to record sounds from a Bell 407GXP. The Bell 407 isn’t exactly the same helicopter, however, gaining dedicated access to anything approximating the OH-58 has no doubt been useful and the sounds seem to lend themselves well in the preview video.

Stay tuned for more information from Echo 19 and Polychop Simulations.

I’m so behind not DCS modules but I will be getting to this one eventually!

      1. One of the things I like about it is that it feels so much like a civilian B407 (with which it shares MUCH DNA).

I have a few .miz free flights set up where there’s no armament, no MMS, and as minimal equipment/weight as possible. I fly it with the “training” skin and just putz around sight seeing from one helipad to another (I’ve got a LOOOOONG way to go!).

Also a “guilty” pleasure is the CFRAG mission files where you’re under time pressure to land in random LZ’s, or run MedEvac missions, etc. No pew-pew at all, and yet still so much fun 🙂

(it’s THIS that makes me sure I’m going to enjoy MSFS v2024 Missions 🙂 ).
