If you’re an Ace Level supporter for Combat Pilot, today is the first day that you can jump in and try the in-development combat sim. We’ve also got new videos available to everyone who wants to see what the pre-alpha is looking like. Let’s check it out!

Start your carrier qualifications

Combat Pilot, a still new combat flight sim focused on the Pacific Theatre during WWII, is moving along in its development plan and Executive Producer, Jason Williams, has followed through with his plan to make the community a part of the development process. Access is being offered up at an early stage for Patreon supporters at the Ace Level. This $25 a month support is steep and only intended for the most dedicated of supporters. Even if you’re not supporting it in this fashion, the latest videos give us a great updated look at how the sim is coming along and how much it’s evolved since I saw it back in June at FSExpo 2024 (read my report on that here).

Here’s a little of what they had to say:

Thanks to everyone who has subscribed to our Patreon thus far! Ace Tier members can now access our Pre-Alpha build and take to the skies in an early version of our A6M2 ‘Zero’ and F4F-4 Wildcat. You can also land and takeoff from our first aircraft carriers the Akagi and Enterprise. You can also takeoff and land on a very early iteration of Midway Atoll. We are the first truly new hardcore combat flight-sim franchise to be built from scratch in nearly 20 years.

Of course the sim still has quite a bit ahead of it and this early look is not a completed game ready for everyone to start flying complex missions over the Pacific. Still, we can see the progress with visual improvements aplenty, more details on the F4F and A6M2, an evolving UI, sounds, and more. You can even land on the carrier with your arrestor hook deployed.

Check out the first video featuring the F4F-4 Wildcat.

Then have a look at the second video with the A6M2 Zero.

  1. interesting, i dont doubt FM, DM and historical aspects will be top nutch , but im still cosius about how big number of airplanes, ships and flaks gona work, and will MP have 10 v 10 and no AI, or 60 v 60 and 100s of AI, to me this is whats gona brake it or make it. Also we can see what will be more effective open aproch to marketing vs closed up Korea game have ( no early acces and so on…)

  2. The pre-alpha build shows promising potential, providing a solid foundation for what’s to come. The focus right now is on getting the core elements are in place, and the overall direction feels well thought out. While there are areas that clearly need refinement—something expected at this stage—it’s encouraging to see that the groundwork is solid, and improvements are already underway. With continued iteration and attention to detail, this has the makings of a polished final product.

    1. Absolutely feel the same way and felt that with the demo that they had at FSExpo back in June. This looks like an evolved version of that, unsurprisingly, and certainly moving in the right direction!

  3. Great to see the team hit the Dec milestone and good to see the foundations there (its a pre alpha so lots more work to go). Some negative folk in the YT comments which is to be expected (people want more/better as well as not having all of the facts on where the project is at).

Sokol76 – agree, the large engagements with AI aircraft and AAA is IMHO a very important element to this theatre of operations so will be interesting to see how they look to manage that.

    1. Certainly a great thing to see! There will be some negative comments out there I’m sure… some folks don’t really understand how early things still are in development. I remain shocked that its a good as it is right now.
