Coming in with a late in the year DCS World status update, IndiaFoxtEcho is updating us on their already released MB-339 as well as their in-development G.91. There’s some interesting new things on the horizon for both modules so lets have a look!

MB-339 updates include new missile capability

IndiaFoxtEcho’s recap of work that they are doing on the DCS: MB-339 reach far and wide across the module. They are currently working to implement a flight director system adding training possibilities and instrument landing abilities. They are adding new key bindings, flight model adjustments and bug fixes.

Some of the bugs fixed include more accurate gunsight adjustments, GPS and TACAN problems which now indicate magnetic heading, incorrect altimeter values, and other optimizations.

The devs report that the module is in continuous maintenance mode with plans for bug fixes and updates as needed to maintain the module. This makes sense as the MB-339 arrived more or less complete and the additional work has been aimed at resolving outstanding issues.

One interesting addition that is in the works it the potential to add air to air missiles to the jet. The MB-339A/PAN as modeled does not have the ability but other models do. IndiaFoxtEcho are exploring adding AIM-9L and/or Magic II capability to the jet. Many have asked for it and I think the devs are testing the waters to see what the community reaction is. My opinion? Let’s get the option for it!

G.91 update

Progress has been quietly happening in the background on the DCS:G.91. IndiaFoxtEcho report that they believe progress will speed up considerably and that the module will likely release in 2025 though they have no specific release date.

The latest update gives us a work in progress look at the G.91 with textures now in on the cockpit. The textures themselves are reportedly still in progress but they are coming along.

The exterior model is apparently in the process of being developed to a higher standard as well.

The G.91 will add a bit of flavour into the early Cold War era with the G.91 being used primarily in the light attack role. It’s ability to carry Matra rocket pods, AIM-9 Sidewinders, and operate from short austere airstrips should be interesting.

  1. I have the MB-339 coming around for a free trial in a week. Looking forward to flying it again. Kinda bummed out it still hasn’t seen 50% off on the sales yet. (I’m a horrible cheapskate.) But I own three IFE planes in FS2020 so I do support the devs.

And much as I like new toys, if the plane didn;t carry the AIM-9s then they shouldn’t be on the plane. Slippery slope and all that. On that other hand each person has the ability to use or not use them.

    1. Maybe one day it’ll get down to 50%!

So the MB-339 was capable of carrying the AIM-9 and Magic II. To the best of my knowledge the pylons were compatible, the electronics functional, they just chose not to use them in service. I’m ok with fudging it for fun when you have the potential. Rather than slippery slope, I tend to want to look at it case by case. I’d not be ok with something outlandish like an AIM-54C on there or something.

This could lead to some very fun dogfights between L-39s and MB-339s.

  2. Looking forwards to IndiaFoxTecho releasing their G.91. Also looking forwards to them announcing their third unrevealed plane, which the only clues given to what it will be is that it won’t be Italian or European. The question is, when will they announce it?
