Midweek, Microsoft released a hotfix for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 that addressed some crashing and usability issues while a server side bug has reportedly fixed a significant issue with the career system. Let’s catch up!

Hotfixed and server side solved

If you were playing on Xbox or using a PC operating with lower detail levels, some aircraft have not been working properly for several weeks now. Often displaying blank or white screens, this made many aircraft with more sophisticated avionics unplayable. This bug has been hotfixed now thankfully! The changelog lists just the one item but it was a significant impediment for those affected.

Fixed a scenario in which avionics were not functioning on Xbox Series S and Low/Medium graphics setting on PC

Meanwhile, another update has hit MSFS 2024 that doesn’t require a hotfix and this is the one affecting career players who were unable to find certain mission types.

A server-side update has been performed for Career Mode in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, which restores some missing missions in the following categories:

  • Commercial Flight (Airplane and Rotorcraft)
  • Private Charter (Private)
  • Search and Rescue (Airplane)

Players do not need to relaunch MSFS 2024 to see these changes take effect in Career Mode.

Hopefully both of those are helping people find renewed enjoyment with the sim. I know the career bug in particular has come up in the comments here and I’ve seen it in the community forums and on Reddit as well. There’s other bugs to sort out too but each one solved is good news in my book.

More to come!

Ahh that’d be a bit frustrating. Can’t click/interact with it at all eh?

  2. Is MSFS 2024 good enough to download yet? I do not want to download a collection of ‘Bugs’/Faults.

I would say not yet. If you’ve got 2020 working well right now, stick with it for a while yet. We’ll see how things are after Sim Update 1 comes out. I’m convinced it’s going to be great, as I said in my recent editorial, but it needs a lot of work.

I’m hopeful in the next 3 months we’ll get through the worst of it and the sim will be working the way it should. Stay tuned for more!

  3. This doesn’t scratch the surface of the plethora of bugs I have been dealing with in career mode on my way to building up a company of 7 X B 737 Max’s producing over 10,000,000 in passive income daiy and a current cash holding of 130 million

There are just way too many to enumerate here, and I refuse to fill out a ticket that asks me a number irrelavant questions on each individual page for each individual bug.

I don’t have enough spare time to waste it on things I probably will never see fixed

For me this has become Reno Racing 2.0

It is hard to be positive under these circumstances

I agree it is difficult to deal with. Career mode is probably going to take longer to get sorted out than many of the other items. Unfortunately its one of the highlighted features so I can see why the whole thing is so frustrating.

I think it will (mostly) move into a good place and hope that it won’t be Reno Racing 2.0. Fingers crossed.

  5. You are right about not downloading the sim right now but I’m just not understanding why the rush to get this out with so many issues plaguing it. The list for me is so long that the ones they post or go for first seems to be just low hanging fruit that does not really make a big difference. This sim has frustrated me and has caused me to waste credits over and over to which I don’t understand all the maintenance charges even if you delegate it. Why do I need a helicopter license to open up passenger travel missions? Why my copilot 95% of the time voice doesn’t match the sex displayed?why at every airport I see floating planes and ground crew always walks through everything to include the plane I’m taxing with? Why the ridiculous AI traffic in free flight is worse than 2020? There is just so many issues I can go on and on about so I don’t get why they couldn’t create the digital world, bring in the new physics, create the career mode but keep helos and fixed wi g totally separate, then take everything that was good in 2020 and merge it together? Flight simmers do not care to having to relearn something as simple as assigning and key binding controllers. Nothing about the so called changes in 2024 makes a lick of sense. Seems to me they just recreated everything from scratch without looking at the positives in 2020. Just my 2 cents worth.

There are some changes, like the keyboard assignments, and some pieces of the UI that seem like the sim backed away from what was working and managed to make them worse with the new sim. Absolutely.

Why it all happened I’m sure will be a bit of a mystery at the specific item by item basis. I do think they had their heads in the right place in terms of trying to solve a major growing pain with 2020 which was what happens when you’ve grown to over 1TB of scenery assets that needs to be downloaded to everyone’s PC. They approached the problem like engineers and re-engineered everything. That part makes sense to me 🙂

As for the rush to get it out… that’s usually the C-Suite folks. I don’t blame the devs themselves for that. MSFS2024 needed to be MSFS2025 and release sometime this spring.

They will get there I’m fairly certain. It’ll just be painful for a bit!
