Always managing to make a bit of a splash with some truly unique aircraft releases, VSKYLABS have come out with a brand new X-Plane 12 aircraft project focused loosely on a simulation of the MD Explorer helicopter developed in the 1990s using a unique NOTAR (no tail rotor) technology. Let’s have a look!

Helicopter sans rotor

VSKYLABS latest project gives us a helicopter that is based loosely on the MD-902 NOTAR helicopter design. The developer has created a series of aircraft in their series which they say focuses on ‘educational, experimental and engineering initiatives’ with this one obviously aiming to create a realistic, physics based, simulation of a NOTAR helicopter in X-Plane 12.

The developer touts dedicated simulation for the tail boom vectoring system, Coanda Effect Simulation, and a vertical stabilizer control system. The avionics use the commonly used Laminar G1000, an integrated display system, a HUD, as well as analog instruments.

The project is considered early access and will continue to develop with several updates already released since the 23rd of February.
