We’ve learned via the Portuguese Xbox Wire website that Microsoft’s previously revealed Embraer partnership is leading them to create the Praetor 600 business jet for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Here’s what we know about the new airplane.

Flying in style

The $21 million business jet by Embraer is the subject of a new aircraft coming to Microsoft Flight Simulator. The jet is the latest in the Legacy line of business jets with the Praetor series boasting extra fuel and more powerful engines. They have Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion avionics and a 4,000 nautical mile range. All in all a pretty impressive looking jet that Microsoft says is part of a partnership they’ve been working on with Embraer.

Here’s a translated quote from the press release.

“Embraer’s state-of-the-art fleet and focus on innovation make it the perfect partner for Microsoft Flight Simulator, and our goal for collaboration is to bring many of Embraer’s aircraft models to the simulator as part of our ‘Expert Series’. We are happy to announce that we are starting this collaboration with the widely popular Embraer Praetor 600, which will be released in the simulator later this year.”

More than the usual add-on, it looks like the Praetor 600 will be the next in the Expert Series and a follow-on to the ATR airliner that is currently the sole occupant in the category.

No word currently on who Microsoft is working with to produce this. Will it be developed in-house with the Asobo team? Outsourced to iniBuilds, FlightFX, or another developer? I’m guessing that we’ll learn about that in the next Q&A.

This is the start of a collaboration so it sounds like other aircraft in the Embraer collection are possible in the future. I had previously speculated that they may partner with Caernado to bring one of their FSX/P3D era EMB 120s up to MSFS 2024 standards. It could still happen though clearly its not the first airplane out of the gate.

Interesting possibilities for the future!

  1. This is great news!

A High Fidelity biz jet is exactly what the sim needs instead of another airliner (or an airliner to biz jet conversion a la BBJ). Especially one that’s capable of transoceanic flights!

OTOH, the ATR seemed to struggle to reach the “Expert” level of fidelity and also went for what seems like years without updates…?

Unfortunately, Hans Hartman seems to be a one man show or lead a very small team, and if true, that would explain the glacial development pace of his previous add-ons.

Frankly, I’m hoping this is a product of iniBuilds as they seem to have cracked the code on how to rapidly produce good quality add-ons.

Now, if we can also get MilTech to crank out a C390, all will be right in the world. 😁

Yeah I’m really excited about this. I have such a good time with the Phenom 300 in X-Plane that getting an even more capable Praetor 600 in MSFS should be quite fun too – at least in theory!

I quite like the ATR. I know it still has a few issues but it did see an update before the end of the year. Hans does seem a little stretched with the ATR, the CRJ and a couple of other planes he did for MSFS 2024. I’m assuming this won’t be one that he does… but we’ll see. iniBuilds would be a good selection in my mind but so would FlightFX.

Yes to the C-390… and you know if someone wants to slip in a E195E-2 I’d be very happy about that too! I thoroughly enjoyed flying in one last year.

  2. What I think both MSFS 2020 and 2024 need is a super high fidelity E-Jet, which includes the E-170, E-175, E-190 and E-195. They are still very much relevant in today’s aviation world, and there is heaps of data and references on them. The E2 series, which includes the E-175 E2, E-190 E2 and E-195 E2, is still too young to be able to have an extremely high fidelity module made of them because it hasn’t been in service for that long and therefore hasn’t the information out there needed to make one.

With FSS E-Jets going I don’t think we’ll see Microsoft step on their toes there. Though many would probably be ok with it.

The E-2 series is very similar to the other E jets in operation. There are differences but I’m sure a developer can do it. It’s not like a military aircraft.

There are quite a few flying these days. I’ve been on one myself.

      1. Well in that case, I hope that someone does both the Embraer E and E-2 jets by 2030. It’s an amazing plane in it’s own right. I like how Embraer basically reinvented their E-Jet series not only by giving them new engines but also by giving them new wings, and a newer, smaller tail for maximum efficiency. I think its amazing how they could link cities like Toronto and Vancouver or Los Angeles. Very cool piece of aviation technology.

  3. Yes – FlightFX seems like they have the chops to do it, as well!

in re the ATR & other Hans work, it’s not that they’re bad add-ons, it’s that they don’t measure up to the devs billing.

or, maybe, MS shouldn’t release an addon labeled “Expert” for $20, knowing that they can’t put enough time into it at that price…? That might be the better option.

Maybe “Premium” or some other moniker that shows the fidelity level is higher than the other Famous Flyers, et al, but doesn’t imply a High Fidelity experience…?

the other thing would be to ensure the planes get a patch every now and again, even if it’s just a minor thing. Otherwise it just looks like they’re abandoned.

anyhow, I’d prefer to be optimistic!!!

whether iniBuilds or FlightFx or other peer-level dev group, I’m hoping this one earns the Expert label right out of the gate! 🙂

On the marketing of it, I think they approached Expert from a casual mass market perspective. It’s “expert” in that the startup process is complex, you really need to use the MCDU to setup your flight and there’s a whole bunch of systems to manage. It’s not a Piper Cub.

But I agree. Premium or some other moniker would make more sense to more serious sim users.

I’m hopeful about this one! It’s a cool jet!
