The next update for the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024 series is out and this one brings in new imagery for several United States cities. The new update is now available, however, it also has a bit of a problem. Let’s have a look at the details!
Newly updated city visuals
Five cities have been given updated imagery thanks to City Update 10. These U.S. destinations have new elevation models and TIN imagery. While KDFW Dallas-Fort Worth International is mentioned in the trailer, its unclear if the update has improved the airport as I know this was a major issue for folks flying in that area.
Here’s the official blurb on the new update.
Microsoft Flight Simulator City Update 10: United States I delivers five spectacular cities throughout the United States in vibrant detail: Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas; Denver, Colorado; San Francisco, California; and Honolulu, Hawaii. Each city has been crafted using the latest aerial and satellite imagery, digital elevation models (DEMs), and TIN (triangulated irregular network) surface texturing. The exquisite detail offered in this latest release will inspire aviators to explore these storied cities and admire their landmarks throughout every season, at any time of the day or night.
You can download the update for MSFS 2020 through the Marketplace and “install” it into MSFS 2024 (where it will be streamed to you).
There is currently a problem
All of what was written above is true, however, a technical issue is causing two of the cities to not actually display the updated imagery if you’re on the non-beta MSFS 2024 release. Whoops! Here’s what Microsoft said in a statement:
We can confirm that there is an issue in City Update 10 with Dallas and Honolulu not having the updated TIN (photogrammetry) data in the current live build of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. We are working towards a resolution targeted for tomorrow.
Other TIN cities included in the City Update are displaying properly. Players on Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) and participating in the 2024 Sim Update 2 beta are not affected by this issue.
Hopefully that issue will be sorted out soon! In the meantime, read more about City Update 10 over here!
