Following on the heels of the 727-200 Freighter, FSS AG have released the passenger version of the classic airliner. Both versions are available and work on both versions of MSFS though there are a few caveats for 2024 owners for the current point in time. Let’s have a look at the latest.

Passengers on your 727

One of those classic Boeing airliner success stories, the 727 tri-jet saw 1,832 produced over a 20-year timespan after first flying in 1963. Dozens of these are still flying with operators around the world and so seeing it come to MSFS is of course a welcome sight. The airliner has been developed by a team within FlightSim Studio AG (though notably a separate team from the E-Jets group) with the Freighter variant coming out last year and now the long-awaited passenger version is up for sale.

Both Freighter and Passenger versions feature detailed PBR textures, custom liveries and animations, detailed interior of passenger and freight areas, a custom EFB with clipboard styling, a full featured engineering panel (the 727 is a three person operation), custom SP-150 autopilot, custom soundset replicating the JT8D-9 engines, and a crew manager to assist with operating the airplane.

There are a number of navigation options. Radio navigation, custom simulated CIVA INS, Working Title GNS530, GNS-XLS with advisory VNAV, and support for PMS GTN750 and TDS GTNXi (available separately).

Both aircraft are available from the Aerosoft and Contrail stores and there’s a 20% discount if you own one and then purchase the other.

Word of warning! You need to have MSFS 2020 installed and be able to activate the aircraft in that sim first before making use of the 2024 version of the aircraft. Further, for MSFS 2024 the aircraft only works currently with the Sim Update 2 beta. If you’re not on the beta, you may want to wait until the dust settles a little. Still, I hear good things about this classic airliner!

  1. I learned all about the 727 in college, including over 100 hours of (real) simulator time, so this plane has always been dear to me.

This was a day-1 purchase that I had been waiting for ever since the freighter version came out, and I’m already beyond impressed. Besides offering an option from every decade of navigation since the 60s, the most impressive thing to me is the way they completely “paper-ized” everything from the options menus, to the flight plan and performance data, and I think even the Navigraph charts look like paper (I’ve only had a few minutes with it so far so I might mis-remembering that). It’s just all done so very thoughtfully and makes the plane feel properly old without making it feel hard.

  2. Will you give us a review to see how the FSS 727 passenger version goes?

I’m thinking about it. I’m a little sour on how things have gone with the E-Jets from FSS but I know the 727 is a different team within and I do like classic airliners. Maybe!

Lots of reviews in the pipeline.
