Lots of activity happening over at PMDG right now with a release window now tightening up for their upcoming MSFS 2020 and 2024 PMDG 777-200ER release. There’s also some upgrades coming to the Freighter and -300ER variants which are highly anticipated and we have news on when those will come. Videos are now coming from various content creators showing off the new airplane and I’ve put together a round-up of those. Finally, there’s some progress being made on the DC-6 too. Let’s learn all about it with my summary of the news below!

All about the 777-200ER

PMDG’s first MSFS 2024 aircraft is about to arrive. The PMDG 777-200ER, coming to both 2020 and 2024, is a simulation of the shorter -200 series of 777 from Boeing. PMDG report that it comes with the usual range of features including three engine options, unique sounds for each, and aircraft performance tuned to each engine.

Those who purchase will unlock access to both the 2020 and 2024 versions so you’ll be able to bridge the gap between the two sims.

Robert S. Randazzo from PMDG Simulations reports that the release window for the public launch of the aircraft is somewhere between the 29th of April and the 1st of May. It will launch on the PMDG website then while a Marketplace release will happen sometime shortly thereafter – there’s always a delay there no matter what.

The NDA for videos has expired and content creators are now sharing their flights and first experiences with the 777-200ER. Here’s a round-up of many of the videos starting with PMDG’s own preview trailer.

We’ve got 320 Sim Pilot doing a walk around of the exterior, the interior, the systems and a short flight just to get a feel for the airplane.

British Avgeek tackled it slightly differently with a special focus on the three engines and all of the sounds that are unique to each. Really gives you an appreciation for the new sounds of the 777-200ER.

Captain Kenobi did a much shorter cinematic video of the airplane that really captures the looks of it.

We’ve got A330 Driver doing a very usual look at the airplane and showing off the old classic United battleship grey scheme.

The aircraft is also being put through it’s paces for this weekend’s VATSIM Cross the Pond event with CptCanada doing a Lisbon to Orlando flight with the airplane. That one is live streaming now as I type this.

The 777-300 updates

Now that the 777-200ER is about to launch, attention is turning back to the other two 777 models that PMDG has released. The 777F and -300ER are getting some updates, such as the new sound pack, in a forthcoming update. This will also launch both of those into MSFS 2024. Current owners will get the upgrade to the new sim for free which is always nice.

The timeline is expected to be the second half of May, according to Robert S. Randazzo, with the 777F coming first and the -300ER to arrive 10-14 days after that.

DC-6 coming “soon”

PMDG also report that their DC-6 airliner project, their first MSFS 2020 project to release, is coming together nicely and that there have been a few minor changes to the aircraft while they get it ready for MSFS 2024. Minor cosmetic improvements have been made “in various areas.”

No timeline has been given for the DC-6 but it is expected to arrive “soon.”

  1. Randazzo (an IRL airline Capt), made a pretty big deal about being able to complete a “By The Book” in-depth test flight to simulate a 777 that had just come out of heavy maintenance in a manner closely consistent with IRL ops.

That seems to imply this version of the addon is far more in depth than even the previous two 777s released for v2020…?

That’s considerably raised my interest in this addon.

I’ll need to give A320 Sim Pilots video a look as he holds an IRL 777 Type Rating. He’s a really reasonable guy and I’m sure he’ll give a balanced viewpoint.

Yeah he does that. And it’s not entirely undeserved, PMDG make some reasonably deep aircraft when it comes to simulation. Nothing has been said about any significant change to the airplane versus the other 777 releases – I expect they will all be on par with each other systems wise.

I am plotting to pickup the 777-300ER once it hits 2024. I’ve got a few other aircraft in the pipeline before then so I can wait but I am interested!

  2. Looking forwards to PMDG’s 777-200ER being released. But I am more excited for their 777-200LR because of it’s tremendous range, and would be useful on flights from Auckland to Doha or to Dubai.

Are you planning on taking it on those long haul journeys? It’s quite the time commitment 🙂

  3. You wonder if BlueBird Simulations might do their own 777 family one day? I would like that because it would stimulate healthy competition between BlueBird and PMDG. However I would rather see Bluebird make their own 747 family instead for MSFS 2020 and 2024 first.

They’ve got some room to maneuver certainly but also quite a lot on their plate. If they can deliver the 757 in good shape, follow that up with another hit with the 767 and their second team deliver a solid 787 then we’ll see what that group might end up delivering. I think that’ll keep them, and us, busy for a good long while!

      1. I agree with you that they have their work already cut out for them. Can’t wait for their Dreamliner. Maybe we will find out more about their 787 during the FlightSimExpo 2025.
