Some news coming out of PMDG today with word that their 777F product has been updated and upgraded for MSFS 2024 support. The update comes packaged together with a series of other fixes and is joined by an update for the recently released 777-200ER with support for changes in Sim Update 2. Let’s have a look!

Freighter 777 now available

PMDG’s 777F is ready for MSFS 2024 and reportedly comes packaged with many of the optimizations, flight model, fly-by-wire improvements, tablet updates and other updates that were launched with the recent 200ER launch.

The 777F update is free for current owners and its a single purchase for those purchasing it new for both 2020 and 2024 support.

You can buy the 777F from PMDG directly now for $54.99 USD. A marketplace update is due whenever it clears the Microsoft update process.

Other updates and launch plans

Sim Update 2’s launch has prompted the need to do a little more testing and launch a few fixes for the 777-200ER. Both recent releases (-200ER and F) get new Say Intentions datalink integration which is really nice to see.

Meanwhile, the beta testers are reportedly working on the 777-300ER which is the next 777 aimed at a launch. According to PMDG’s Robert S. Randazzo, the 777-300ER may be ready to go this week if testing goes well. If bugs are found then they still anticipate a launch before the end of May.

We’ve also learned that the 777-200LR is the next model in the pipeline and should be in testing before the end of this month. It sounds like its on track for a launch sometime shortly after that.

Robert also reports that news on the DC-6 and 737 line-up and their entry in 2024 is coming soon. We may learn more about what they have planned for those products by next week – though release is likely further away. The 737NG line is receiving significant changes and updates and is a major project for the group.

  1. I’m not that thrilled about PMDG going exclusively to MSFS 2024 because MSFS 2024 is a streaming service rather than a game you can download. You need internet to use and addon you’ve paid a lot of money for. Now I know you need internet for MSFS 2020 to get the best experience, but it can run without it (albeit the visuals look less brilliant but still it can still function). I wish the next MSFS platform Microsoft makes won’t rely on streaming.

As for PMDG, I really wish they would do their 747 line up for MSFS 2020 as well as 2024. But I do know that they can only do so much, so while I do respect their choice to make content for MSFS 2024 exclusively in order to cut down the work load, I think no longer making content for MSFS 2020 is a missed opportunity here.

Apologies if I sounded harsh or critical, as that was not the tone I intended to set. This is just a small concern I just want to talk about here.

Your comment was presented respectfully so I don’t think it harsh. Valid critique is important.

2024 does unfortunately require internet being on much more than 2020 does unfortunately. So many services are like that these days.

      1. I know. I think it is borderline scary that we are depending on many things for internet. I mean what if we wake up one day and it’s gone forever and we have to rebuild it again from scratch? Or in a more reasonable situation, what if there is a region wide outage or you travel with your PC to a place where there is no internet and you want to play something you paid a lot of money for? I know this isn’t a topic I should be discussing here but I think it is somewhat relevant to MSFS 2024 and it’s products. Anyway I didn’t mean to sound belligerent or critical.

It’s a series of valid concerns. It pays to be prepared and think about contingencies.

The other side of the coin, however, is that the same arguments have been used in the past for technologies such as electricity. Nothing in the modern world works without it, it’s an essential service.

Internet is becoming that or already is that depending on where you live. Very little works without internet access so I figure if there’s a regional issue with internet, MSFS not working is going to be low on my priority of issues.

Where 2024 is a problem are places where internet is still not at service level. I feel for those folks.
