Quick Cold War Germany scenarios now available

Carsten’s Cold War Germany features 70-scenarios rolled into a single mission. How? Basically its a single mission with variables setup so that when you choose your mission it configures the mission space according to that mission. Everything else is hidden but there if you wanted to re-run the mission flying something entirely different.

The mission template uses a lot of real world information with realistic bases, SAM sites, and force structure from Germany in the 1980s. While the setup is very realistic, it then gets really simple offering quick missions that you can fly in roughly 20 minutes more or less.

Starting up the mission you get the chance to pick your coalition, then you pick a role and that then spawns the specific mission you’ve picked.

It takes a moment to load in and then away you go getting setup for a quick mission. Here are the slots available:

USAFE

• A-10A 5 slots operating our of Wiesbaden (FOL)
• A-10C II 5 slots operating out of Sembach
• F-4E 5 slots operating out of Ramstein
• F-4E 5 slots for pseudo F-4G operating out of Spangdahlem
• F-15C 5 slots out of Bitburg
• F-16C 5 slots for a pseudo F-16A operating out of Hahn

RAFG

• Harrier 5 slots for pseudo GR.3 operating out of road bases
• Harrier 5 slots for pseudo GR.5 operating out of road base and Güterslo
• F-4E 5 slots for pseudo FGR-2 operating out of Gütersloh

Luftwaffe

• F-4E 5 slots for a pseudo initial and Peace rhine F-4F out of Bremen (stand-in for Wittmund) and Pferdsfeld

Flying the missions

One of the challenges with any new map for the DCS series is the limited availability of missions and so I was very excited to check this out. The missions are pretty good with you starting on the ground with some information pre-loaded in most cases. The aircraft I picked to get through this quickly were the MiG-29A and A-10A (both Flaming Cliffs airplanes) and that meant things were extra quick.

With the MiG-29 I did battle with a couple of F-15s, struck a HAWK battery, and intercepted some Tornadoes. That was fun.

With the A-10A it was more about convoys and tanks, as you’d expect, and those were quite good too.

You can set the challenge depending on what you want. Do you want the enemy air defenses on? Do you want them to do a quick reaction scramble? You choose through the F10 option on the radio menu.
