We’ve got more in-depth videos on Black Square’s forthcoming Starship for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024 together with an announcement of the price and release date for the unique airplane. This is what we know!

Starship ready

Just Flight have just announced that the Black Square Starship will be released on Thursday June 19 and that the price will be set at £39.99/€44.95/$54.99. The publisher confirms that the product will initially be available from the Just Flight webstore before appearing on other third party stores and on the Marketplace.

The developer, Black Square, has meanwhile been releasing videos at a rate of about one a day. I’ve already covered the first two videos but several more have come out since. There’s videos covering the tablet interface, fuel and electrical systems, a video on the avionics, another covering flight planning, avionics cooling gets its own nearly 6-minute video, and then there’s a nearly 5-minute long video talking about the Starship’s pre-GPS Omega/VLF navigation system that is, so far as I know, a unique experience that has rarely or never been done before.

  1. I feel really bad for my Black Square Dukes right now, especially the turbine one, as it’s been my go-to “get there fast in a fun turbo-prop” plane all year. This will be one hell of a cool plane.

The Dukes came out just as I was switching gears into the 2024 launch. I still really want to try them out but the Starship may be the go to as well.

Side note but I’m doing a multi part journal with the Flight FX P.180. Not quite as high fidelity as this but what a fun airplane. Love these slightly quirky pusher prop designs.

      1. Yeah the P.180 looks really cool too. It’s tempting, but I have so many planes I’ve never even touched. That’s why enjoy your journals!

The piston Duke is the one to get if you really love micro-managing your engines (and I really mean that, they somehow made it a joy to do). The turbine one is more of a hotrod but it has terrible range. “Going nowhere fast” is my favorite way to describe that one. It’s a lot less work to operate though if you do just want to dart around in something that feels like it could plausibly be your own personal plane.

I struggle with that too. Always want to make sure that I don’t just drop an airplane after a quick review but try and get some personal satisfaction from them as well.

Good to know about the turbine versus piston powered versions. I’m not sure which way I would learn towards there. The turbine sounds appealing for the performance but then the piston has some extra character… decisions decisions.

That’s probably months away. I’m working on the Kiowa for DCS (ahead of what I assume will be the MiG-29 release), the E-Jets from X-Crafts for X-Plane, and a bunch of MSFS stuff that I’ve had in the works for months.
