The folks at Laminar Research, makers of X-Plane, have made it a habit to theme and clearly indicate what areas of focus are coming in the next versions of X-Plane 12 and as of today we have a new update on their plans coming up. Let’s check it all out!
Departing and arriving

For the last few months, Laminar Research have been focused on a significant 12.2 upgrade to X-Plane. The update has been multifaceted but focused on improving lighting, changing the cloud rendering, solving the dark cockpit issue with their ‘Exposure Fusion’ system, and improving stability.
That version has been in a public beta for quite some time now and is about to make the jump, after a couple of release candidates, to public release.
The following update will be a relatively minor one with 12.2.1 focused in on new art assets for airport gateway creators and adding a new heliport to the sim.
Then, 12.3.0 will be another major release packed with content and systems updates. Here are some of the bulleted items they’ve mentioned:
- Weather Radar
- WX/WXR API
- G1000 Synthetic Vision
- A330 Improvements
- ExVis Device Improvements
- A new enhanced airport
More information is planned to come out about what these updates entail so stay tuned for more from Laminar Research’s Facebook and other sources!
