Announced five years ago, A2A Simulations have finally launched their long awaited twin engine Aerostar light transport aircraft for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Let’s have a look at the new aircraft release and what early access means for A2A aircraft.

Ready for flight

It’s been a long road for A2A Simulations and their Aerostar 600 project. I first reported on the aircraft’s announced development back in July of 2020. The company has been busy with various projects but this one has finally come together and they are ready for the public to start flying the aircraft.

The real world Aerostar 600 was first produced as the Ted Smith Aerostar before later being bought up by Piper Aircraft Corporation. The twin engine, Lycoming IO-540-G1B5 powered, sleek lines and aerodynamics make the aircraft relatively fast with a 266 knot maximum speed and a 210 knot cruise. A quick moving aircraft to be sure.

The simulated version sports A2A’s Acu-Sim 2.0 aerodynamics system with physics based flight dynamics (independent of MSFS). It also has a per-cylinder engine simulation for the two engines that they say simulates fuel injection, ignition and wear. The same story can be found with custom simulations of the oil, starter, autopilot, and various other systems with high levels of fidelity.

The aircraft makes use of MSFS 2024 features with interactive walkaround and various LOD and performance features. It has its own app within the MSFS 2024 EFB, persistence features simulate wear and tear, and an graphical analyzer gives detailed insight into engine operation.

Early access and pricing

A2A have released the aircraft into an early access period. A lot of folks are understandably concerned about the ramifications of an early access period. To answer that, Lewis from A2A has put out the following statement:

Early Access gives you the opportunity to start flying the Accu-Sim Aerostar before its full release. At A2A Simulations, our Early Access program is a little different from what you might expect, this is not a rough, unfinished product. The Aerostar is already in a very advanced stage of development (late beta), with the majority of systems and features complete. Only final refinements and polish remain.

Later on in the statement he also says the following:

Unlike many typical Early Access programs, ours is expected to be short and focused, with a clear path to the final version. We’re excited to have you join us as we complete this final phase together.

So you can wait or jump in now depending on your preference.

The aircraft is $49.99 USD and available from the A2A Simulations webstore. The aircraft is only available for MSFS 2024.

  1. Somehow I managed to not know/forget this was being made, so with that for context:

Holy cow a Piper Aerostar! And high fidelity as well! This is definitely going on my short list.

I still need to take the Starship out of the box though…

Sometimes a surprise like that is a good surprise!

Too many good options out there right now. I’m way behind on just about everything that I’ve got in my hangar right now. We’ve had quite a burst of new stuff to check out.

      1. Too many good options in MFS2024?

        That is news to me.

Speaking of good options, regarding x-plane some review sites skip reviewing the planes that are being sold at xaviation how ever they do have some of the best ones (the ones by Hot Start, TorqueSim).

I’m going to take that as a serious question mark? In the last couple of weeks we’ve had this A2A Aerostar release, Black Square released the Beechcraft Starship, Aerosoft have shockingly turned the CRJ into a solid airliner with the V2 2.1 update, iFly moved the 737 MAX 8 to 2024, and PMDG moved the entire 777 line over to 2024. That’s just the last few weeks.

I’ve previously reviewed the TorqueSim BN-2B. It was pretty good. I’m interested in their CitationJet 525 but the $84.95 price tag is a bit steep. I may get into it but there’s other stuff at the top of my list. What of theirs are you currently flying and recommending?

      3. I’m actually still on 2020, so I guess I don’t need to worry about the Aerostar just yet!

Regarding X-Plane I agree, there are a lot of great planes available that get overlooked just because it’s the less popular sim. In Shamrock’s case I feel fortunate he’s able to singlehandedly cover all the stuff he already does! I bet he even has a life outside the blog too (at least I hope he does!)

That gives you a little more time to contemplate it 😉

Yes indeed! I do get asked why I don’t cover X, Y or Z and its usually because I haven’t found a way to slow time so that I can spend the free time I do have with all of this cool stuff.

Full time work, long distance running, photography and other stuff keep me very busy! Sometimes my garden even looks like I know what I’m doing with it. Sometimes. 😉

  2. Haven´t decided yet if I am going to pick it up at the webstore at the ingame store.

The webstore has a download limit which can be reseted if you ask for it, however with patches probably the ingame store will take much longer till avalibilty.

Marketplace is definitely slow on updates but it you can wait it out, it is at least relatively consistent. I had to wait ages for my PA-28 Arrow III/IV to get updated but the update itself was pretty seamless.

    2. That’s always a tough question. I have stuff that never gets updated because I have to remember to go to a site and redownload it (looking at you, everything I ever bought from JustFlight). I want to make sure the max amount of money goes to the devs, but sometimes I just want the ease of using the Marketplace. I will also often try to use a storefront like Orbx or Contrail that offers products from multiple vendors and still has an auto-update feature.
