The last of the Boeing 777 variants that PMDG have been working on have been released. The PMDG 777-200LR rounds out a collection of different versions of the popular airliner and freighter and portents a shift in development to some other highly anticipated products. Here’s the latest!

The last of the 777 releases

The Boeing 777-200LR is the last model of the 777 that PMDG are focusing on and its quite an interesting aircraft. For a long time, this variant held the record for the longest nonstop flight by a commercial airline with a range around 9,000 nautical miles and the ability to connect virtually any two airports. Despite its abilities, this variant has not proven popular and Emirates is the largest operator with just 10 of the type.

The PMDG iteration comes with the usual slate of features including detailed interior and exterior modeling, deep systems modeling including failures, and support for flight sim systems like NaviGraph, Hoppie, and SimBrief.

As with prior releases for the 777, PMDG are offering the aircraft up for both 2020 and 2024 with a single purchase. You can buy it through the PMDG website and its expected to appear on the MSFS Marketplace sometime in August. The price is $49.99 USD making it cheaper than the 777F at $54.99 USD or the 777-300ER and 777-200ER at $74.99 and $77.72 USD respectively.

Other updates

There’s some discussion in the announcement about compatibility between versions of the aircraft. PMDG’s Robert S. Randazzo explained that their 777 versions on 2024 are rebuilt products in the 2024 framework and that comes with some benefits for the future but also some growing pains. If you’ve purchased the livery kits for the 2020 version of the aircraft, Microsoft currently counts these as separate from the 2024 version of the aircraft with no free upgrade route possible at present.

If you’re on PC, this doesn’t matter as the Ops Centre (the latest version is really solid by the way!) lets you install liveries for free but Xbox users are a bit stuck. Hopefully Microsoft can resolve that.

We also have updates on some other projects. The 737NG series have been successfully upgraded to 2024 standards and planned upgrades to the products are underway.

The DC-6 is making progress but is struggling with a LOD (level of detail issue) that the company hopes is fixed in Sim Update 3.

And the 747 project is picking up steam now that the last 777 is out the door with both the 741 and 744 variants reportedly in active development. Previews are reportedly coming but not just yet.

  1. I would like to recreate the Auckland – Doha flight one day with the 777-200LR in Qatar Airways livery.
