Long awaited news on Fenix Simulations A320ceo series and their big update has finally arrived. The update to the aircraft brings along significant changes to the entire product and introduces native MSFS 2024 support. Exciting times for Fenix fans! Let’s have a look at the changes.

Updated: July 28 at 1:15 pm EDT – The update has released ahead of schedule and is now out

The “Big Fenix Update!”

Fenix Simulations tend to be quiet for long periods of time and then drop tremendous amounts of information just ahead of a major update. And here we are again with tons of information about the BFU or “Big Fenix Update” which will update their now long well established A320ceo series (including A319 and A321) with plenty of fixes and overhauls.

The changes listed include an all-axis fly-by-wire retune using new datasets and information that was previously unavailable. One of the benefits is that a linear controller response, the default configuration, should be the most accurate setup now. Previously the Fenix flew better with a specific set of axis curves. The aircraft has also been upgrade to use the new ground handling physics for both MSFS 2020 and 2024.

Other updates include the A319 with Sharklets. This is a rarer type but is used by American airlines that uses a hotrod version of the CFM56 which is now also simulated. Fenix reports that they now have 7 engine models simulated including this modified version.

The EFB has been updated, the sounds have been completely overhauled, displays colour accuracy has been improved thanks to real world sampling, and there is reportedly a few hundred other bug fixes and updates.

All of the currently available liveries plus 50 new ones have been added to their livery manager to support the updated airplane.

MSFS 2024 features

All of that comes before 2024 specific features that the Fenix is receiving. The airplane has seen an overhaul to support 2024 capabilities that take it above and beyond what is possible in 2020. Its now a native 2024 model and the entire aircraft has been rebuilt including the model and textures for the new sim.

Walk around mode is one of the things that’s changed with the ability to walk up to, open, and interact with various exterior panels. You can also go up to the engine and move the blades with a mouse click.

They also talk in their video about some substantial reworking of how the textures work in the 2024 version with more accurate colours and adjustments to fit how the new sim works. They have also made adjustments to the LCD screens and the FCU (Flight Control Unit) with some interesting technology to make it so that the displays don’t wash out in sunlight – just as they do in real life.

In short, Fenix have overhauled the airplane for 2024 in nearly every way. The benefits should be significant to current owners, especially as the update is free. No doubt this will be a boon to their A320neo project.

Release coming

Fenix say that the release is anticipated Tuesday or Wednesday of this week. Stay tuned for that!

Update: It’s now out!

It’s very rare that anything comes out ahead of schedule with flight simming. We’re used to delays and more delays but Fenix have delivered slightly ahead of schedule and the BFU is now out. Read the details on the company blog here!

  2. I hope they make an A321LR and A321XLR as part of their A320neo family line up. I also wish they were doing the A319neo, but I can see why they’re not.

Any ideas what Fenix might do once they have finished their A320neo family? I know I’m jumping the gun a little bit here (ok, by a lot I would admit) but I think it’s worth discussing about one day soon, right?

I don’t think we know the full roadmap of what they might do following the initial A320neo release. I would suspect they may follow a similar pattern and offer other models. The A321XLR might be of particular interest given its growing popularity with airlines around the world.

We know the A320neo is next followed by a modernized A320ceo release with A320neo-esq options in the cockpit. After that, pure speculation and nothing concrete offered by the dev. This is all part of their 2025 roadmap which is, of course, half over, so we’ll just have to see what they plan for 2026 when its revealed.

      1. I wonder if Fenix will do an A330ceo, A330neo and A350 one day? I am convinced that Fenix will make their own A350 one day, but not for a while as they may want to wait before the hype over the iniBuilds A350 dies down. My guess is that they will do the A330ceo and neo before they do the A350.

Despite my overzelous attitude, I am patient.

I don’t believe there’s any way to do that right now.
